WEDNESDAY, January 9th, 1867.

Mr. Holton, the Senator for Howard county, appeared and
took his seat.

The President laid before the Senate the annual Report of
the Comptroller of the Treasury ;

On motion of Mr. Tome,
Referred to the Committee on Finance.

The Chair laid before the Senate further testimony in the
contested election case of Spates vs. Ohr ;

[See Document D.]
On motion of Mr. Ohr,
Referred to the Committee on Elections.

Mr. Tome presented the Report of the Visitors of Frederick
College ;

Which was read.

William H. Guy, Committee Clerk, and Bernard Miller,
Door Keeper, appeared, qualified and entered upon the dis-
charge of their duties,

Mr. Young presented the petition of Wm. F. Cochran,
praying extra compensation for services rendered the State ;
Which was read and referred to the Committee on Finance.
Mr. Maddox submitted the following message :

BY THE SENATE,

January 9th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We respectfully propose, with your concurrence, the ap-
pointment of a Joint Committee, consisting of three members
of the Senate, and four members of the House of Delegates, to
visit and examine into the condition of all the benevolent and
reformatory institutions, which are beneficiaries of the State.
We have named upon the part of the Senate, Messrs. Mad-
dox, Mules and Compton.

Secretary.

On motion of Mr. Compton,

Leave was granted to Messrs. Maddox, Compton and Fra-
zier, to report a bill extending the time of Philip H. Dorsey,
late Sheriff of St. Mary's county, to make collections and set-
tle the business of his office.
