Mr. Jones proposed the following amendment :

Amend section 2, in second line after word "laws," insert
"be and the same is hereby amended and re-enacted so as to;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Jones proposed the following amendment;

Section 1, strike out the first line under "militia," and in-
sert the words "immediately after the passage of this Act the
General Assembly shall select by joint ballot an Inspector
General to be commissioned by the Governor, and to receive
the same pay as a Major General in the United States army,
provided the same does not exceed the sum of five thousand
dollars, who shall proceed;"

Mr. Gorsuch proposed the following amendment to the
amendment:

Strike out "five thousand" and insert "three thousand;"

Which was rejected.

The question then recurred upon the amendment proposed
by Mr. Jones;

Which was adopted.

Mr. Knott moved a reconsideration of the vote by which
the amendment proposed by Mr. Calvert was adopted;

Pending the consideration of which,

On motion of Mr. Phelps,
The House took a recess until 4 1/2 o'clock this evening.

TUESDAY, February 19, 4 1/2 o'clock, P. M.

The House met.
