Mr. Kerr from the Committee on Printing made the fol-
lowing report.

The Committee on Printing to whom was referred the mo-
tion to print 1000 copies of the report of the Special Commit-
tee on the Maryland Penitentiary, respectfully recommend
that the above number of copies be printed.

On motion of Mr. Bixler,

The rules were suspended,

And the House took up for consideration,

The bill entitled, an Act to alter and amend an Act enti-
tled, an Act to add a new Article to the Code of Pnblic
General Laws, to be entitled, "Public Instruction," provid-
ing a uniform system of Free Public Schools for the State of
Maryland, and to repeal all existing laws inconsistent there-
with, passed at the January session, 1865;

Said bill being upon its second reading,

Pending which,

Mr. Knott proposed the following amendment:

In line 2, section 2, strike out the words "or are incorpo-
rated by the Act of the General Assembly;"

Which was adopted.

Mr. Calvert moved to postpone the further consideration of
the bill until Monday next;

Which was decided in the negative.

The bill as amended was then read a second time.

On motion of Mr. Nicolai,
The rules were suspended,

And the bill entitled, an Act to incorporate Mount
Moriah Lodge No. 116, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons,

Which was read a second time and ordered to be engrossed
for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Waltmeyer,
The rules were suspended,
