county, remonstrating against any Legislative action whereby
the existing restrictions for the observance of the Christian
Sabbath would be relaxed;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
Sunday Law.

Mr. Hammond presented the petition of J. K. Gaither and
others, praying that the General Assembly may interfere to
protect them from excessive tolls on the Frederick Turnpike;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on the Ju-
diciary.

Also, the petition of William H. Baldwin and others,
praying for a law to prohibit the sale of alcoholic or malt
liquors within two miles of Savage Factory, except at the
Annapolis Junction;

Which was read and referred to Anne Arundel and How-
ard delegations.

Mr. Neilson presented the memorial of the Grand Jury of
Baltimore city, praying that a place of punishment may be
provided for minor colored persons;

Which was read, ordered to be printed and referred to
the Committee on Ways and Means.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled, an
Act to authorize the Baltimore Steam Packet Company to
issue bonds and to increase their capital stock to the amount
of their expenditures, endorsed, passed by yeas and nays,
with proposed amendment.

AMENDMENT PROPOSED.

Section 1, line 5—Strike out eight and inseit six.
The amendment was adopted, and the bill as amended,
passed by yeas and nays as follow:
