passed at January session, 1856, chapter 109, to amend ati
Act, entitled, an Act to incorporate the Fremont Savings
Institution of Baltimore, by allowing said institution the
privileges embraced under the Act entitled, an Act to continue
the corporate existence of the several banking institutions
therein mentioned, passed at January session, 1S53, chapter
441;

The bill entitled, an Act to incorporate the President and
Directors of the Chesapeake Mutual Insurance Company of
Baltimore, Maryland;

Were severally read a second time.

Mr. Hammond moved to reconsider the vote by which the
bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11
and 12 of chapter 37 of the Act of Assembly of January ses-
sion, 1866, entitled, an Act to encourage and facilitate immi-
gration to the State of Maryland, and enact other sections in
the place of the sections so repealed ;

Was on yesterday postponed until Friday, 15th inst.,
Which was not sustained.

The bill entitled, an Act to relieve and protect the opera-
tives or laborers in the Cotton factories of Maryland ;

Being upon its second reading,

Mr. King proposed the following amendment:

In section 1, strike out all after the word " recovered ;"

Which was not adopted.

The bill was then read a second time.

Mr. Ford moved to make it the Order of the Day for to-
morrow ;

Which was not sustained.

The bill was then read a second time and ordered to be en-
grossed for a third reading.

The bill entitled, a supplement to an Act entitled, an Act
to incorporate the Spruce Hill Coal Company, passed at Jan-
uary session 1865, chapter 77 ;

Was read a second time.

The Secretary of the Senate returned the bill entitled, an
Act to authorize and empower the County Commissioners of
Washington county, in their discretion, to assume such part
of the debt of the Mayor and Councilmen of the town of
Hagerstown known as the McCausland Debt, as they may
deem just and equitable ;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays with proposed amend-
ment.
