Which was read and referred to the Committee on Sunday
Law.

Mr. Hutchins presented a petition of many citizens of Bal-
timore county, praying relief from the excessive tolls charged
by the Baltimore and York Turnpike Road Company;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
that subject.

Mr. Clarke presented a memorial of over 100 citizens of
Baltimore county, for relief against Baltimore and Frederick-
town Turnpike County;

Which was read and refered to Committee on Judiciary.

Mr. Carmichael presented a petition of James E. Hooper
owner of the Clipper, Woodbury, Mount Washington and
Park Mill Factories and 39 operatives of the Clipper Factory,
praying protection for the operatives in the Cotton Factories
in Maryland;

Which was referred to the Committee on Manufactures.

Mr. Steiner presented a memorial of William H. Peters
and 72 other citizens of Frederick and Montgomery counties,
praying the passage of an Act of incorporation, to authorize
the construction of a railroad from Frederick by the most eli-
gible and practicable route through the central portion of
Montgomery county, to the District of Columbia, with au-
thority also to construct a branch road from Frederick north-
erly or northwesterly to the Maryland and Pennsylvania
line;

Which was read the and referred to the Committee on
Corporations.

The Speaker laid before the House the followingreport of J.
K. Longwell, President of the Baltimore and Reistertown
Turnpike Road, in response to an order of the House;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Judi-
ciary.

Speaker of the House of Delegates,

SIR: The Joint Resolutions of the General Assembly of
Maryland, adopted on the 25th instant, was forwarded to me
this "day, by the Chief Clerk of the House of Delegates, Wm.
R. Cole, Esq., to which I reply, that I have already commen-
ced the payment of claims for bounty due enlisted men and
former owners of enlisted slaves. It will be my duty and
