through this House, but after the sending of the message
those who voted against the suspension defeated the suspen-
sion of the rules, so that the requisite three-fourths vote
could not be obtained. This House then, under a sense of
public duty and before receiving the response of the Senate,
reconsidered and changed the said time in order to facilitate
the passage of the said bill, which change of time the House
was prevented from communicating to the Senate by its ad-
journment. It is further ordered that on the assembling of
the Senate a message containing a copy of this explanation
shall be sent to the Senate."

Which was read, assented to, and sent to the "Senate.

Mr. Wilson presented a petition from fifty citizens of the
town of Havre de Grace, Harford county, praying that a pen-
sion may be granted George Keating, a soldier in the war of
1812, now insane, who is supported by private charity alone;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Pen-
sions.

Mr. Hammond presented a petition from William H.
Browne, praying compensation for services rendered the State
under the Acts of 1864, chapter 49, and 1865, chapter 106 ;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Gorsuch presented a petition from William Brown, to
change his name to John William Brown ;

Which was read and referred to the Frederick County del-
egation.

Mr. Turner presented a petition from a large number of
citizens of Baltimore in favor of a modification of the Sun-
day Law;

Which was read and referred to the Select Committee on
that subject.

Mr. Knott presented a petition from George W. Webb,
Kelly & Piet, Edward Jenkins and 36 others of Baltimore,
remonstrating against any modification of the charter of the
Baltimore and Potomac Railroad;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Internal
Improvements.

Mr. Clarke presented a petition from J. Howard McHenry
and forty-five others, praying the passage of a law to prevent
cattle and swine running at large in Baltimore county ;

Also, a petition from A. Hoen and 43 other citizens of Bal-
timore county, asking the passage of a law to prevent cattle,
&c., from running at large ;
