a bill entitled, an Act to add a new Article to the Code of
Public General Laws, to be entitled, "Public Roads."

Mr. Hall from a Select Committee reported favorably a bill
entitled, an Act to regulate and provide for the marking of
stock in the fourth election district of Anne Arundel county.

Mr. Morgan from a Select Committee reported favorably a
bill entitled, an Act to authorize the Governor to appoint an
additional Justice of the Peace for the fourth election district
in St. Mary's county.

Mr. Welsh from a Select Committee reported favorably a
bill entitled, an Act to -amend an Act passed at January ses-
sion, 1867, entitled, an Act to incorporate the Chester River
Steamboat Company.

Mr. Knott from a Select Committee reported favorably a
bill entitled, an Act to authorize the Commissioner of the
Land Office, to make such correction in the courses or out-
lines of the tract of land in Allegany connty, called "Repub-
lic,' both in the original certificate of survey and in the
patent thereof, as shall make the same correspond with the
original plot on file in said office ;

Which were severally read a first time.

The resolutions to the City Council of Baltimore,

Being upon their second reading,

Mr. Stevens proposed the following amendment:

"Strike out $10,000."

On motion of Mr. Smith,
The whole subject was laid upon the table,

The resolutions endorsing the course of action of Hon. Rev-
erdy Johnson, Senator in Congress from Maryland,

Being upon their second reading,

Mr. Hammond proposed the following amendment:

Resolved, That the people of Maryland, are justly proud
of the unrivalled position as a constitutional lawyer, which
Mr. Johnson has so signally won by the eminent learning
and eloquence which he has brought to the discussion of the
grave questions that now absorb public interest, and which
are to shape the destiny of our beloved country.

Resolved, That the Governor is hereby requested to furnish
Mr. Johnson with a copy of these resolutions.

Mr. Baker proposed the following :

As well as for his vote given last Friday in the Senate of
the United States, for the bill defining the duties of the clerk
of the House of Representatives.

Mr. Buhrman moved that the whole subject be laid over
