Pending the Tote on the above order as adopted,

On motion of Mr. Nicolai,
He was excused from voting.

The question then recurring upon the order offered by Mr.
Jones,

It was adopted.
On motion of Mr. Bixler,

Ordered, That the Committee on the Judiciary inquire
what legislation, if any, is necessary to render valid certain
deeds of property made by John J. Graves, auditor of Balti-
more city, to Robert C. Barnes.

Mr. Carmichael offered the following.

Ordered, That from and after Tuesday next, no per diem
shall be allowed to any member of this House, for any day
on which he fails to attend its sessions, unless he has been
previously excused from attendance by the House, or is
absent on account of sickness; and ordered further, that no
officer of this House shall be allowed any compensation for
any day he may be absent from duty, unless he has obtained
the previous permission of the Speaker, for such absence;

Mr. Lankford offered the following amendment:
Insert "or sickness in his family."

Mr. Coleman moved to lay the whole subject on the table;
Which was decided in the negative.
Mr. Phelps proposed the following amendment:
Insert the word "subsequently," after the word "pre-
viously;"

Which was adopted.

The question then recurring upon the order as amended,
It was adopted.

On motion of Mr. Carmichael,

Ordered, That the Speaker be requested to select a clerk,
in the place of Mr. Ware, from among the officers of the
House, if a competent clerk shall be found.

Mr. Aydelott, the rules being suspended, presented the fol-
lowing petition of 32 citizens of Worcester county, asking for
a law appropriating a certain sum of money due Worcester
county, for internal improvements, to the making a railroad
in Somerset county;

Which was read and referred to the Committee on Corpora-
tion.
