to inquire what Legislation if any, is necessary to prevent
the allowance and payment of excessive salaries to School
Commissioners and Secretaries to their boards, and report by
bill or otherwise.
On motion of Mr. Hall,
Leave was granted the Commmittee on the Judiciary to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an Act to authorize Nicholas Ham-
mond, administrator of Nicholas H. Green late, clerk of the
circuit court for Anne Arundel county, to complete the un-
finished records and business in said office, and to collect the
fees due to said Green.
Also, leave was granted the Anne Arundel and Calvert
county Delegations, to introduce a bill to repeal the 27th,
28th and 29th sections of the 2d article of the Code of Public
Local Laws, and to enact another section in lien thereof, re-
lating to the sale of spiritous liquors to the paupers at the
Alms house in Anne Aruudel county.
On motion of Mr. Stevens,
Leave was granted the Baltimore city Delegation to report
a bill to repeal section 227 of article 4, of Public Local Laws,
relating to elections in Baltimore city, and to re-enact the
same with amendments.
On motion of Mr. Smith,
Leave was granted the Committee on the Judiciary to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an Act to extend the Jurisdiction of
Justices of the Peace of the city of Baltimore, so as to enable
them to release on bail, prisoners confined in jail on all crimi-
nal charges, except murder.
On motion of Mr. Clarke,
Leave was granted the Committee on Corporations to intro-
duceabill to authorize the Baltimore Steam Packet company, to
issue Bonds and to increase their capital stock to the amount
expended by them.
On motion of Mr. McCulloh,
Leave was granted the Allegany county delegation to re-
port a bill to enable Frostburg Lodge No. 49, Independent
Order of Odd Fellows, to sell and transfer their Hall.
On motion of Mr. Williams,
Leave was granted the Anne Arundel and Calvert county
delegations to introduce a bill to change the name of Joseph
Case Peterson to Joseph Peterson.
On motion of Mr. Parsons,
Leave was granted the Somerset county delegation to in-
troduce a bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 8 of Article
30 of Public General Laws, entitled, crimes and punishments,
