who having conveyed it to the Senate Chamber, returned and
made the following

REPORT:

The Tellers on the part of the two Houses of the General
Assembly of Maryland, appointed to receive and count the
ballots cast for Treasurer of the State, beg leave to report;
that on careful examination and casting up said ballots,
cast for Treasurer, they find that there were ninety-eight
(98) votes cast for Treasurer—necessary to a choice, fifty (50)
—of which number, Robert Fowler received seventy-six (76)
votes; Thomas Gorsuch, received seventeen (17) votes; Jacob
Tome, two (2) votes; Robert Bruce, 1 vote; and there were
two (2) blank ballots.

Whereupon it was announced by the Speaker, that Robert
Fowler having received a majority of the votes cast, is duly
elected Treasurer of the Sate of Maryland.

On motion of Mr. Evans, (the Rules being suspended)

Ordered, That leave of absence be granted Wm. Lindsey,
of Cecil until Monday, January 21st, at 11 o'clock; said
leave is asked that he may attend the funeral of a friend.

On motion of Mr. Wilson,

Leave was granted the Harford delegation to report a bill
supplementary to the Act of 1866, chapter 24, relating to the
town of Havre DeGrace.

The bill entitled an Act to repeal the Act of 1862, chapter
106, relating to sentence of negroes ;

Was taken up and read a second time and ordered to be en-
grossed for a third reading.

On motion of Mr. Jones,

The Rules were suspended, and said bill was read a third
time and passed by yeas and nays as follow :
