35th article of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to
the election of United States Senator,

Was taken up for consideration on its third reading.

Mr. Knott moved to reconsider the vote by which the bill
was passed to a third reading ;

Decided in the affirmative.

Mr. Knott submitted the following amendment:

Insert the following additional section :

Sec. 2. And be it enacted by the General Assembly of the
State of Maryland, That the first election of Senator to rep-
resent this State, in the Senate of the United States, which
shall be held after the first day of April, in the year eigh-
teen hundred and sixty-seven, the person elected shall be an
inhabitant of the Eastern Shore, of this State; and one of
the Senators to be thereafter elected, shall always be an in-
habitant of the Eastern Shore, and the other of the Western
Shore of this State ;

The question being on the adoption of the amendment ;
