The bill entitled, An act to authorize the School Commis-
sioners of Calvert county to sell certain bank stock held by
them for the benefit of the Public Schools of said county ;
and to apply the proceeds to educational purposes in said
county ;

Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for
a third reading.

Mr. Carrnichael, from the Committee on the Judiciary,
(the rules being suspended,) reported favorably a bill enti-
tled, An act to provide for the speedy hearing by the Court
of Appeals of the case of the School Commissioners of Balti-
more city versus the State Board of Education ;

Which was read the first time.

The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following mes-
sage :

BY THE SENATE,

January 9th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates:

We respectfully propose, with your concurrence, the.ap-
pointment of a Joint Committee, consisting of three members
of the Senate and four members of the House of Delegates,
to visit and examine into the condition of all the benevolent
and reformatory institutions which are beneficiaries of the
State.

We have named upon the part of the Senate Messrs. Mad-
dox, Mules and Compton.

Secretary.
Which was read.

Mr. Davis of Baltimore city, submitted the following mes-
sage :

BY THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES,

January 9th, 1867.
Gentlemen of the Senate:

We have received your message proposing the appointment
of a Joint Committee to visit all the reformatory and benev-
olent institutions which are beneficiaries of the State, and
that said committee report by bill or otherwise, and concur
therein.

We have named upon the part of the House Messrs.
Davis, of Baltimore city, Gordy, Israel, Rouzer.
