Said bill was then sent to the House of Delegates.

The bill entitled, an Act supplementary to an Act to incor-
porate the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River Tide Water
Canal Company, passed at January Session, 1866, chapter
173, having been read ;

Mr. Henkle submitted the following amendment:

Section 3d, line 2nd, strike out the word "five," and in-
sert the word "four ;"

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Henkle submitted the following as a substitute for sec-
tion 4 :

Sec. 4. And be it enacted, That the time allowed for the
completion by said company of the canal which they are here-
by authorized to make, namely, from the Chesapeake Bay or
its tributaries, to the waters of Anacostia, or the eastern
branch of the Potomac River, is hereby extended to five years
from the time of the passage of this Act, which shall take ef-
fect from the date of its passage ;

On the question being put, it was

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Henkle moved a call of the Senate,

The Sergeant-at-Arms was sent to inform the absent Sena-
tors that their attendance was required in the Senate Cham-
ber.

On motion by Mr. Henkle,
All further proeeedings under the call were dispensed with.

Mr. Henkle then moved a suspension of the rules to giv
the bill a third reading by special order ;

On the question being put, it was
Determined in the affirmative.

The bill was then read a third time by special order, three-
fourths concurring, and passed by yeas and nays as follow:
