year 1867, entitled, an Act to repeal the 4th, 7th, 15th, 16th
and 20th sections of the 4th Article of the Public Local Laws
of the city of Baltimore, relative to the qualification of elec-
tors in said city, and regulating the time for holding elec-
tions for Mayor and Members of the City Council, and the
terms of, and the times for entering upon the duties of said
offices, and to re-enact the same with amendments ;

Endorsed, "passed by yeas and nays."

Also, delivered the bill entitled, an Act authorising the
payment of the salary of the Hon. Silas Morris Cochran, late
Associate Justice of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, for
the quarter ending December 31, 1866 ;

Which was read the first time and referred to the Commit-
tee on Finance.

On motion of Mr. Earle,

The Senate proceeded to consider the bill entitled, an Act to
appropriate a sum of money to erect a monument over the re-
mains of Roger B. Taney, late Chief Judge of the Supreme
Court of the United States;

The question being upon the adoption of the following
amendments submitted by Mr. Earle:

Amend section 1, line 5, by inserting after the word re-
mains, "or on some suitable site in the State House yard ;"

Amend section 3, lines 1 and 2, by striking out the name
of " Grayson Eichelberger," and inserting the names of
"Charles E. Trail, Hugh McAler, S. T. Wallis and James
T. Earle."

Mr. Mackall submitted the following :

Amend by adding the name of Hon. Henry Williams, of
Calvert county;

On the question being put, it was

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Earle submitted the following:

Section 1, insert after the word "remains," "or on some suit-
able site in the State House yard, or the State House itself;"

Determined in the affirmative.

Mr. Davis, of Caroline, submitted the following :

Strike out the name of "Roger B. Taney," and insert the
name of "Samuel Chase ;"

On the question being put, it was

Determined in the negative.

Mr. Billingslea submitted the following :

Substitute for "Roger B, Taney" the name of "Henry W.
Davis;"
