TESTIMONY.

OAKLAND, ALLEGANY CO., MD.,

December 5th, 1866.

In pursuance of the aforegoing notice, I attended at the
time and place first therein designated, and having ap-
pointed Jarries J. McHenry, as Clerk, and administered to
him an oath to fairly write down and transcribe the deposi-
tions to be taken by me, did proceed then and there to take
the following testimony, to wit:

Deposition No. 1.

PATRICK HAMMIL having been duly sworn, deposed and
said as follows, to wit:

By Mr. Spates :

Question. What is your name, age, occupation and resi-
dence; and how long have you resided there?

Answer. My name is Patrick Hammil; age 49 years; oc-
cupation, farmer; residence at Swanton, in election District
No. 1, in Allegany county, Maryland, and have lived in Al-
legany county all my life.

By Mr. Spates:

Question. Were you registered as a voter prior to the elec-
tion held in said Allegany county, on the 6th day of Novem-
ber, 1866?

Answer. I was.

By Mr. Spates :

Question. Did you or not attend at the polls in said elec-
tion District, in Allegany county, on the 6th day of Novem-
ber, 186R, if so, did you then and there offer a ticket to the
Judges of election at said polls as your ballot, and was it re-
ceived or rejected ? State also the name of the person printed
on said ticket,, for State Senator, for whom you desired to
vote, and what reason did the said Judges assign for reject-
ing your vote if they did so reject it ?

(Interrogatory objected to by Dr. Ohr.)

Answer. I did so attend and offered to the Judges of elec-
tion there, a ticket as my ballot and it was rejected bv them;
the name on my said ticket for State Senator was Alfred
