The resolutions submitted, by Mr. Willis, returning thanks to President Johnson; ,, Was t:ik3;i up for consideration, on their second reading. On motion of Mr. Buhrman, The said resolutions were referred to the committee on Federal Relations. The bill entitled, an Act to appropriate a sum of money to pay William. Caaidea and D-ivid Fowler, extra compen-sation for services rendered, to the State; Was read the second tims and ordered, to ba engrossed for a third reading. The bill entitled, an Act to appropriate a sum of money to pay R. P. fiayly for printing extra copies of the constitution of Maryland, by order of the General Assembly at its Session of 1865; Was read the second time and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. The hour of on3 o'clock having arrived, the order of the day being tha bill entitled, an Ace to eacoJraJe and facilitate emigration to Maryland; Was taken up. Mr. Smith, of Frederick, submitted the following amend- ment: Be it enacted that no commander or captain of any vessel shall be ponaittu'd to import wiliully and. knowingly into the State, any co;ivict or pauper, under the penalty of five thou- sand. dollars, to bs collected as other fines are, the same to be tried before a court of common jurisdiction; Which was rejected. Mr. Foster submitted the following amendment: Amend to read after the word "lands," "outside the State of Maryland," Which was adopted. Mr. Fawcatt submitted the following amendment: "Strike out the 12th section;" Decided in the negative. |
