212 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 29, Which was read the first time. On motion of Mr. Harris, Leave was granted Messrs. Harris, Smith, of Allegany, Stone, Hodson and Norris, to report a bill to amend section 5 of Article 42, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to the office of Private Secretary to the Governor. On motion of Mr. Soper, Leave was granted the committee on Ways and Means to report a bill to amend the law in relation to non-resident traders in the State of Maryland. The bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections 16 and 29 of Article 74, of the code of Public General Laws, relating to Pilots, and re-enact the game with amendments; Was taken up for consideration on its second reading. Mr. Tull moved to refer said bill to the Baltimore city del- egation, and make it the order of the day for to-morrow at one o'clock. Decided in the affirmative. The bill entitled, an Act to repeal section 14 of Article 39, and re-enact the same; Was taken up for consideration on its second reading. On motion of Mr. Jones, The enacting clause of the bill was stricken out. The bill entitled, an Act to incorporate the Maryland Em- igration Company; Was read the second time, and ordered to be engrossed for a third reading. The bill entitled, an Act to repeal sections 179 and 180 of Article 30, of the Code of Public General Laws, relating to Sabbath breaking; Was taken up for consideration on its second reading, Mr. Rider submitted the following amendment: Section 1, line 37, between the words "alley" and "with- in," insert the words, "or barber saloon." The question being on the adoption of the amendment, Mr. Harris demanded the yeas and nays. The demand being sustained, The yeas and nays were called, and appeared as follow: |
