Blair, chairman, presented then message, after which the Senators retired, and the House resumed the consideration of its business. Mr. Pilkington submitted the following resolution: Resolved, That while we recognize to the fullest extent the right of the people to petition or memoralize the General As- sembly, we hold that the practice of sending large committees to wait upon members and influence Legislation by personal weight or influence is in a high degree pernicious, and their intrusion into the Legislative Halls by discussion and debate to control the General Assembly is a piece of unparallelled. presumption and warranted impertinence. The question being on the adoption of the resolution, Mr. Williams demanded the yeas and nays. The demand being sustained. The yeas and nays were called and appeared as follow:
So the resolution was rejected. |
