1866.] OF" THE SENATE. , 71 Mr. Stephenson, from the Select committee, reported a bill supplementary to the Conowingo Bridge company; Which was read the first time. On motion of Mr. Tome, The bill to incorporate the Boom company of Cecil county, was made the order of the day for Friday next, at one o'clock. Mr. Eaton, from the Baltimore city Senators, to whom was referred the bill to enable the Mayor and city Council of Bal- timore to subscribe to the Western Maryland Railroad; Reported it without amendment; and it was Was read the second time. The hour having arrived for considering the order of the day, The President announced the assessment bill. The question was on the following amendment, submitted by Mr. Eaton: In section 3, strike out all after the word "the" in line one, to the word "appoint" in line third, and insert in lieu thereof, the words "Governor of the State shall." On motion of Mr. Tome, The Senate was called and the Sergeant sent to inform the absent Senators that their attendance was required in the Senate Chamber, Who, after a time, returned and reported that he had no- tified the absent Senators. Mr. Earle moved the Senate adjourn; Determined in the negative. Mr. Stephenson submitted the following amendment to the amendment: Insert after the word "appoint" the words "by and with the advice and consent of the Senate;" Determined in the negative by yeas and nays as fol- low:
