TUESDAY, January 23, 1866.
The House met and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Harden.
Present at the call of the roll the following members.
Messrs. Frazier, Speaker, Agnew, Angel, Bartell, Barron,
Brown, Buhrman, Calvert, Cairns, Chew, Cook, Cronise,
Cummings, Darling, Dean, Eavey, Everhart, Fooks, Faw-
cett, Foster, Garrison, Hambleton, Harris, Hazen, Hodson,
Hoffman, Holloway, Hopkins, Jamison, Jones, Keefer,
Kirk, Leaverton, Lee, of Baltimore city, Malone, Markey,
McCauley, McCullough, Mittag, Mules, Norris, Pennington,
Pilkington, Poteet, Rider, Roberts, Robinson, Shaw, Sher-
ry, Silver, Slothower, Smith, of Allegany, Smith, of Dor-
chester, Smith of Frederick, Soper, Stewart, Stone, Tolson,
Tull, Usilton, Valliant, Wardwell, Watkins. Williams,
Willis, Wilson, Wooden—67.
The Journal of yesterday was read and approved.
Mr. Cronise presented a petition from twenty-five citizens
of Washington county, in favor of repealing the law prohit-
biting fishing in the Potomac river;
Winch was read and referred to the Washington county
delegation.
Mr. Sherry presented a petition from William Conrad, of
Allegany county, praying for an increase of pay, as Super-
visor, &c.;
Which was read and referred to the Allegany county dele-
gation.
Mr. Brown presented a petition from eighty citizens of
Allegany county, praying the General Assembly of Mary-
land to authorize the Commissioners of Allegany county to
endorse the bonds of the Western Maryland Railroad;
Which was read and referred to the Allegany county del-
egation.
Mr. Slothower presented a petition from the citizens of
Baltimore county, praying your Honorable Bodies to pass an
Act authorizing the Mayor and city Council of Baltimore to
endorse the bonds of the Gwynn's Falls company, to the
amount of one hundred and fifty thousand dollars;
Which was read and referred to the committee on Corpo-
rations.
Mr. Smith, of Frederick county, presented a petition from
Henry Drenonburg and others, to erect gates on the roads
