Said bill was then sent to the Senate.
Mr. Frazier (Mr. Miller, of Anne Arundel, in the chair)
submitted the following
JOINT RESOLUTIONS.
Resolved, By the General Assembly of Maryland that the
representatives of this State in the Senate and House of Re-
presentatives of the United States, be requested to use their
efforts, in such manner as they shall deem most effective, to
bring to the attention of the proper authorities at Washing-
ton the national importance of the Harbor of Baltimore in
connection with our Naval Marine and the future safety and
protection of the Capital of the Union, as illustrated and. es-
tablished by the statistics of the late rebellion, and to use all
proper efforts to procure such aid from Congress as shall en-
sure at an early day an unobstructed ship channel from said
Harbor for vessels of the heaviest tonnage, and that the ——
in transmitting the action of this Body to our Senators and
Representatives in Congress, with which they are hereby
charged, be instructed to direct their attention to that por-
tion of the Message of the Governor of the State, which relates
to this important subject;
Which was read the first time.
Mr. Slothower submitted the following amendment:
