Cox, Lieutenant Governor. Sir:—At the request of the Honorable Body over which you preside "asking to he furnished with the number of men enlisted to the credit of the State of Maryland from the first of April, 1861, to the 26th of May, 1863," I have the honor to inform you that the number of men furnished by the State of Maryland from April 17, 1861, to April 30, 1865, is forty- nine thousand five hundred and twenty-two, (49,522) without reference to periods of service, which varied from three months to three years.
