Annapolis, January 18, 1866.

Lieutenant Governor.
Sir:—At the request of the Honorable Body over which
you preside "asking to he furnished with the number of men
enlisted to the credit of the State of Maryland from the first
of April, 1861, to the 26th of May, 1863," I have the honor
to inform you that the number of men furnished by the State
of Maryland from April 17, 1861, to April 30, 1865, is forty-
nine thousand five hundred and twenty-two, (49,522) without
reference to periods of service, which varied from three months
to three years.

Mr. Clarke presented the petition of H. D. Evans ;

Which was read. and referred to Messrs. Vickers, Earle, and
McMaster.
Mr. Davis of Caroline, presented the petition of citizens of
Caroline county, relating to assessment ;
Which was read and referred to the committee on that
subject.
Also, the petition of citizens relating to the sale of liquor;
Which was read and referred to Messrs. Davis, of Caro-
line, McNeal and Turner.
