34 JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Jan. 17, The President laid before the Senate the following commu- nication: STATE OF MARYLAND, EXECUTIVE DEPARTMENT, Annapolis, Jan. 17, 1866. Gentlemen of the Senate : I herewith transmit for the attention of your Honorable Body, a copy of the Report of the State Superintendent of Public Instruction for the year 1865, and of a letter ad- dressed to Governor A. W. Bradford, by Brantz Mayer, Esq., of Baltimore, on the examination, classification and partial arrangement of some of the State papers of Maryland, be- longing to the Proprietary, Royal and Revolutionary periods. THO. SWANN. Referred to the committee on Education. The hour having arrived for considering the order of the day, On motion of Mr. Ohr, It was postponed one hour. Mr. Frazier, from the committee on Corporations, to which. was referred the bill incorporating Freedom Lodge, No. 112, reported it with the following amendment: Section 3, line 10, after the word "objects," insert " but nothing herein contained, shall bo construed to confer any banking privileges;" Which was read and adopted, and the bill was read. the second time. Mr. Davis, of Caroline county, reported a bill relating to sheep and dogs; Which was read the first time. On motion of Mr. Earle, The bill in favor of J. West Thompson, was recommitted. Mr. Ohr, from the committee on Internal Improvements, to which was referred the bill amending the Charter of tho Western Maryland Railroad Company; Reported it without amendment, and the bill was read the second time. Mr. Trail, from the committee on Judicial Proceedings reported a bill to ma:;e uniform the compensation of county Commissioners , |
