AN ACT to incorporate the Chestertown and
Reading Boom and Library Association. |
Preamble. |
WHEREAS, it has been represented to this Gene-
ral Assembly that certain citizens of Chestertown
and its vicinity have formed themselves into an
association, for the purpose of establishing a public
reading room and of collecting a library of literary
and scientific books with a desire to cultivate and
encourage the mental and moral improvement of
its members, for the better accomplishment of
which design they have asked for an Act of incor-
poration; and whereas, the objects of such asso-
ciation seem to be landable and beneficial, and
said request to be reasonable; therefore : |

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General assembly
of Maryland, That George B. Westcott, George
W. T. Perkins, George Vickers, Thomas W. Elia-
son, James A. Pearce, William N. E. Wickes,
Samuel W. Spencer, William S. Walker, Jesse
K. Heines, Richard Hynson, and Joseph .A.
Wickes and such other persons as now are, or may
hereafter become members shall be, and they are
hereby created and made a body politic and corpo-
rate, by the name, style and title of the Chester-
town Reading Boom and, Library Association, and
by that name shall have continued succession, and
be able and capable in law to make contracts, to
sue and be sued, implead and be impleaded, defend
and be defended in any Court of law or equity in
this State or elsewhere, and to make, have and use
a common seal and the same to alter or renew at
their pleasure. |
Election of
Officers. |
Sec. 2. And be it enacted, That said corporation
shall have power to elect on the first Wednesday
of May in the year eighteen hundred and sixty-
seven, and annually thereafter, from among its
members, a President, Vice-President, Treasurer,
Secretary and Librarian and a Board of five Direc-
tors, who shall continue in office for one year, or
until their successors shall be duly elected and
qualified, and that the officers and Directors shall |
