IN RELATION TO BOYS.
DORCHESTER, Co., Dec. 7, 1363,
In regard to W. A., I must say that his whole course of
conduct during the past year has been a source of much
pleasure and gratification to not only myself, but also to all
with whom lie has been thrown in contact. He has received
one-quarter's schooling at a good school, and was required to
attend Sabbath school, but owing to a very decided antipathy
on his part to mixing with or forming any acquaintances, in
the judgment of myself and family it was thought that lie
should not be forced or required to do what seemed more a
trial than a pleasure. His moral disposition and habits are
good. His teacher's report of him was a good one, and. my
own observation is that he has a mind susceptible of improve-
ment. At his employment he rarely forgets how the differ-
ent crops are planted, worked and saved. His character for
industry is good, for obedience unexceptionable, for truthful-
ness not as good as I would like to report. Last summer he
had nearly the whole of my marketing to dispose of, together
with the delivery daily of ice to some 75 or 80 families, and
I was unable to detect in him the slightest dereliction of
duty, or in not making the proper returns of moneys which
came into his hands, I have employed on my farm two
white men who came recommended very highly, of the three
W. is much the most trusty and reliable. J. R G.
BALTIMORE, Dec. 1, 1865.
I have the pleasure to inform you that F. P. is yet with
me. I have nothing to add or alter of the testimony that I
have uniformly borne to his faithfulness, industry and intel-
ligence during the six years he has been in my employ. He
attends Sabbath school and church regularly; and is honest,
truthful and of good morals generally. J. R.
