210 John R. Franklin, Claimant, J vs. > Thomas A. Spence, Contestant,) JANUARY 23d, 1866. Met pursuant to adjournment at Princess Anne. HENRY PAGE, Clerk. James M. Dryden, a witness produced on behalf of claim- ant, being duly sworn to special interrogatories marked "J. M. D.," answers and says: To the first interrogatory; A. I was. 2nd. A. They asked me it' I had ever heard Mr. Jones exulting over Southern victories, if I had ever heard him speaking fa- vorably of the South; and unfavourably of the Union army? They also asked me if 1 had heard Mr. Jones' speech, which he delivered here in Princess Anne, and it I had had much political conversation with Mr. Jones?' I told them that I had had but little political conversation with Mr. Jones; that I had had a good deal of private business with him; that I had only heard him stating the news us published in the daily papers; that I was not present when .he delivered his speech here, and knew nothing relative to it, and that I knew nothing to the prejudice of his loyalty.
