Special interrogatories:
1st. Were you or not deterred from taking the oath, by
the manner and threatenings of the officers of registration?
A. Yes, sir.
. 2nd. Were you conscious of having said or done anything
criminal against your Government of the United States ?
A. I never done anything against it in my life-
Cross-Interrogatories :
Q. At what time did you make your first application to
the registers.
A. I think in the second week.
Q. At what time did you make your last application?
A. The last day of the sitting for correction I think.
Q. For what offense were you told by the registers a man
could be sent to the penitentiary?
A. For swearing falsely.
Q. Did you or not decline to take oath at the time of your
first application, from fear that some one -would appear and
testify that you had sworn falsely ?
A.,, I did not know what some people might say.

Q,. Had you or not supported the administration during
the war until the election at which McClellan was a candi-
date ?
A. I think I did; I voted for Mr. Crisfield for Congress,
and afterwards for Mr. Cresswell, and for the Constitutional
convention, but against the New Constitution.
Cross-Examination:
Q. For what reason did you cease to support the adminis-
tration. of Mr. Lincoln?
A. I wasn't black all over and couldn't go any further.
