TESTIMONY
TO THE HONORABLE JOHN M. FRAZIER,
Presiding Officer of the House of Delegates of Maryland:
The undersigned, a Justice of the Peace of the State of
Maryland in and for Somerset county, most respectfully cer-
tifies to the Honorable Body over which you preside, that in
pursuance! of the notice herewith transmitted, at the time
and place therein appointed, at the town of Princess Anne,
in Somerset county, on Wednesday, the 24th day of Janu-
ary, 1866, he proceeded to examine on oath, administered by
the undersigned, and take the depositions of the witnesses
brought before him by the Honorable Thomas A. Spence.
That a series of questions, herewith transmitted, numbered
from one to five inclusive, were filed with me by the Honor-
able Thomas A. Spence, to be propounded to the several
witnesses examined, which were propounded to them, and
their depositions are in answer to the said questions or such
of them as were propounded.
The Honorable Thomas A Spence was present by his at-
torney, Samuel A. Graham, throughout the examination.
Lewis T. H. Irving, Esq., as attorney for Honorable John
R. Franklin, was present also during the entire examina-
tion.
Not completing the examination of the witnessess on the
24th, he adjourned the examination to ten o'clock the next
(morning, Thursday the 25th, and having met, in pursuance
of said adjournment, he proceeded with the examination and
taking the depositions of witnesses as on the preceding day
in the presence of the same attorneys.
The depositions were written by Joseph H. Smith, Clerk,
sworn fairly to write down and transcribe the depositions,
and the said depositions were subscribed by the respective
deponents. No other witnesses being before me to be exam-
