So the order was adopted. On motion of Mr. Cook, Ordered, That it he entered upon the Journal that James H. Cook was detained from his seat yesterday by sickness. On motion of Mr. Pilkington, Ordered, That it be entered upon the Journal that if J. E. Pilkington had been in his seat when the vote was taken he would have voted against the majority report in the Harwood and Gambrill contested election case and if lie had been pres- ent he would have voted for the majority report in the Spence and Franklin case. Mr. Soper, from the committee on Ways and Means, to which was referred the bill entitled, an Act to provide for the payment of the officers of registration of this State, their of- ficers and expenses, reported, said bill with the following amendment: Strike out all in the 7th line after the word "State" to the end of the section; The amendment was rejected and the bill passed, by yeas and nays as follow:
