Maryland Somerset County Ssc.
John: Barker late of this County was Attached to answer unto Capt: David Browne in a Plea of
debt

Whereupon the aforesd Capt. David Browne by his Attorney Edward Jones, saith that the aforesd John: Barker
upon the 31. day of May in the year of our Lord 1688. then became indebted unto the sd Capt David Browne
in the sum of twelve hundred and twenty nine pounds of tobacco, and also upon the 12th. day of August in
the year 1689. in the sum of 629. pounds of porke as doth more plainly appear by two certain writings
under the hands and seals of the deft and here in Court produced, but the deft litle regarding his promise &
assumption but fraudulently intending the plt to deceive in the sum of 1229. pounds of tobacco and also in
the sum of 629 pounds of porke, but hath neglected to pay and still doth neglect, although often thereunto
required, whereupon the plt saith he is damnifyed, and hath dammage to the value and losse of 3000 pounds of
tobacco and thereupon brings his suite. pr Quer Edward Jones.. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Somersett Ss. Joseph Thaxter was Sumoned to answer unto Capt Henry Smith in a plea of
trespass of the Case. ---- And the sd Henry by his Attorney Peter Dent, saith that in June last
the sd Henry became bound for the said Joseph. to the Lord Baltimore for the dutyes of the
two shill-
pr hhd. but the said Joseph.hath not paid the sd Bills of Exchange according to the tenour of
the said
bond given in that behalfe, whereby the sd Henry is liable to be sued for the penalty of the
said
Bond, therefore desires to have security of the sd Joseph for to save the said Henry:Harmeless
from
any damages that shall accrue by the non payment of the said Bills of Exchange and
thereupon
to brings his act. Dent Pledgr &c. John: Doe

Somersett County Ss. Richard: Plunkett was attached to answer unto William: Harper of a plea of
trespass
upon the Case &c. - - - - - - And whereupon the sd William by Peter Dent his Attorney
Complaineth
that the sd Richard the 8th day of October in the year of our Lord 1689. at Monokin within the
Jurisdiction
of this Court was indebted to the said William in the sum of twelve hundred and fourty two pounds of
tobacco
for thirteen months accomodations at the house of the said William, and other goods sold and delivered
as pr accot
and the said Richard to the Wm in manner aforesd being indebted the sd Richard in Consideration did
assume upon
him Selfe and to the sd Wm. then and there faithfully promise that he the sd Richard the sum of 1243
Pounds
of tobaccoe to the said Wm. when he should be thereunto requested would well and truly content and
pay
Nevertheless the said Richard his promise and assumption afd not regarding but minding and fraudulently
intending
him the said William in this behalfe Craftily and subtilly to deceived and defraud the said sum of 1243

Pounds of tobacco. to the said Wm. hath not paid although the said Richard, to doe the same, by the
said
Wm. afterwards was requested but hath hitherto refused and doth still refuse to the damage of the said
Wm. of 1800 Pounds of tobacco. and thereof he bringeth his suite - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Somerset County Ss Henry Sadbury was attached to answr: unto Edmund Howard in a plea of trespas upon
the Case
And whereupon the sd, Edmund By Peter Dent his attorney Complaineth that whereas the sd: Henry y 10th: day of
october in y year of or: lord 1689 at Pocomoke within y Jurisdiction of this Cort: was indebted to the sd: Edmund
in twenty five pounds of Butter being for one Summers milke of Cowe of his the said Edmund and the Sd: Henry
to y Sd: Edmond in manner aforesaid being indebted the Sd: Henry in Consideracon thereof did assume upon
himself
to the said Edmund then & there faithfully promise yt he the Sd. Henry the Sd. twenty five pounds of butter to the
Said Edmond when he Shoulld be requested woulld well & truly Content & pay Nevertheless the Sd. Henry his
promise
