41 January. 17th. 1689 Comissioners Presnt Capt. David. Browne Mr. Samuel: Hopkins Capt. Robert King Mr. Edmund Howard mr. James. Round The Court being called this day through Coldness of weather adjourned for halfe an hour to mr. Andrew Whittingtons, where it was againe imediatly called and this County Leavy Laid, which being duely asessed were found to be eighteen pounds pr poll as appears pr Leavy Book - - - - - - - - - - - - - And whereas ther happened to be an errour found, in the laying of the last years Leavy of four hundred pounds of Tobacco, and finding it to be in the hands of mr. ffrancis Jenkins. the Court therefore Orders. Mr. William: Brereton high Sheriffe to demand the same. - - - - - - - - - - - And Whereas at the above said Leavy lying, there became due to Alexander Thomas three thousand pounds of tobacco, for the ferry at Wiccocomocoe, But the said Alexander not being there yett his necessity being considered, it was then Ordered that Capt. David Browne should pay the Sherrife the above said Sum of three thousand pounds of tobacco for the use of said Alexander, and the said Browne to be allowed the same Sum againe out of the next County Leavy. - - - - - - - - - - The same day Ordered that this County Records be removed from the house of Capt. William Coulborne in Monokin, with mr. Edmund: Beauchamp. to the house of John: Wests. the said West obliges him selfe by Recognizance of twenty thousand pounds of tobacco to have them Ready to produce when legally demanded, Casualityes only Excepted. - - - - - - - - Whereas mr. William Brereton Offers him Selfe to goe Over the Bay upon the Countyes Concers therefore the Court, Orders the said Brereton by vertue of and Order given him, to go with such letters and other precepts as shall be thought requisit. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Ordered that mr. William: Brereton and mr. William Round go over the Bay directly to mr. Cheseldyns or to those in present Authority and receive a particular answer to the therein written and that they take two men and other necessaryes for the said voyage --- leaving the whole to be discoursed by the said Brereton and Round, as they shall think requisit not forgetting the late insolencies of our Indians, to call for what Shott Armes and amunition can be had. -----This following letter was sent by ye said Brereton Gent: and a Speedy answer was required to be retourned. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - We have lately understood of some transactions happenned in your parts and likewise of mr. Panis untimely End, as also that a Proclamacon was Issued out after some persons inhabiting in our parts, which said Proclamacon we have not yet recd. There is many dissafected persons here which absolutely denyes this present power, dayly making it their Studdy to involve others into their factious humours. Capt. Will Whittington has publickly read at Snow hill towne three letters in the audiens of many persons, viz One from Major Sewall or the late president Josephs, one from Coll. Biggs and another from William Aylward late Clerke of this County in which letters are inserted that the Lord: Baltimore is coming into enjoy this Country as former(ly) his Charter being confirmed by King and Parliament. to confirme which reports, its likewise said by many here that mr. Kenleline Cheseldyne has quite revolted from that loyall designe he lately pretended to, and to which inviolably we shall endeavour to preserve, and also= that he had rather have given five hundred pounds then been concerned in this Revolution of government. these and Such like reports are the occasions of many disturbances. what further may be added we leave to the bearers Signed by Order of Court Court adjourns till 2d tuesday in March { Jno.
