9ber 13th. 1690 // (199) Wm: Henderson 9ber 8th / 1690 John: Davis your Servant hath been with us upon a Complaint, he is by me Ordered to be at Court and there you are to meet him on tuesday next to answer the Complainant and you are not to hinder him from going to Court, he tells me he hath Served twenty years, if so, and being 16 years a marryed man it seems a hard Case, but when you are heard as well as he, shall then be more clear in the judgment of that Case. your friend. ffra: Jenckins. --------- This Indenture made the 18th: day of September, 1688. Between Moses. ffainten Cordweiner of the one party and John Davis of the other part wittnesseth, that the said John: Davis, doth of his own free and voluntary will, doth Covenant, promise and grant, to and with the said Moses: ffainten his Heirs, Execcuters and Assigns, from the day of the date hereof, for and dureing the term of five years and two months, to Serve in such Service and employment, as he the said Moses: ffainton or his Assigns shall imploy him in. In Consideration whereof the said Moses: ffainten doth hereby covenant & grant to and with the said John Davis, to find and allow him Suffitient meat drink, apparel & lodging conforme to the Custom of the Country dureing the said Term, and hath also paid to Maximillian: Gore his laste Master five thousand foot of Cypresse planke. That the said John: Davis doth of his own free and voluntary will, Covenant promise and agree to and with the said Benjamin Deards, his Heirs Execcutors and Assigns, from the day of the date hereof for and dureing the term of twelve years to serve in such Service and imployment as he the said Benjamin: Deards or his Assigns shall imploy him in consideration whereof the said Benjamin: Deards, doth hereby Covenant & grant to and with the said John:Davis to find and (allow) him, Sufficient meat drink, apparel and lodging dureing the said term, and hath also paid unto Mose ffainton his late Master Ten thousand foot of Cypresse plank for the said John: Davis, In wittness whereof the parties (aforesaid) mentioned have interchangeably sett their hands and seals, the day and year above written.
