(109) The deposition of John: Tarr being aged about fourty five years saith that being att the sd mrs. Watts her house att the same time that the above sd Christian Harman was there att the selling of the sd Nigro he this Deponant did see & view the dilivery of the sd Nigro by the sd Minor to the sd Mrs. Watts which Nigro had then wearing, One hatt and one shirt, this deponent further saith that Some small time after the said sale and dilivery of ther sd Nigro and apparel. ffrancis Joyce above named did imploy me the deponent to goe with him unto the sd mrs Watts in Order to make discovery of some cloathing and other things which were stolen from the sd Joyce by the sd Nigro who being examined confessed the fact and brought to my view. One wasecoat, One hatt with one shirt he had on his back and one shoo on his foot, all which the said Nigro did owne in my hearing that he took out of the sd ffrancis his house, he also owned one leather bagg - taken and some meat, with one knife, which knife the sd Nigro declared that his Master the sd Minor had taken from him I the deponent did likewise see and took notice of a Sample of cloth and buttons which the said ffrancis carryed to the sd mrs Wattses and the said sample did exactly agree with the sd Coat and the buttons thereon. I the deponent being alsoe at the sd mrs Wattses att the time that the sd Minor found his Nigro, who ran away upon stealing the sd goods as was - Concluded, I asked the said Minor whether he found with his sd runaway Nigro any of ffrancis Joyces things that was stolen who answered that he saw none this the deponent saith and further he saith not signum Sworne before me this 16th day of May 1690 Jno: IT Tarr. Stephen Page aged about twenty eight years saith that in the beginning of ffebruary last past I being in company with the said James: Minor, upon the road wee mett with the sd ffrancis Joyce. who complained to the said Miner that his Nigro had broken into his house and stolen his Cloathing and other things the sd Minor did then promise that upon finding the said Nigro being then run away, if he found the sd ffrancis Joyces things with him or that he had stolen them or the like that he would satisfie the sd ffrancis for the sd things, this the Deponent saith and further saith not Sworne before me this 16th. day of May. 1690 Stephen: Page. Hopkins - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The deposition of William Richardson being aged near twenty eight years saith that upon the third day of ffebruary last past I the deponent being in company and communication with James: Miner and ffrancis Joyce, did heare the sd Joyce complain to the said Minor that the sd Miners Nigro then being runn away had made way into his the sd ffrancis house and had stolen severall pieces of cloathing and some provisions, he the sd Minor did promise the sd Joyce that if it should be found that his Nigro had Comitted the fellony aforesd he would satisfie for the same, this the deponent saith, & further saith not Sworne before me this 16th. day of May 1690 Wm Richardson Samll. Hopkins;. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The Deposition of John Bishop aged fourty five years saith that I the deponant did upon the latter end of ffebry or begining of March last meete with the abovesd James: Minor and did ask him if he had found any of ffrancis Joyces cloaths that were stolen, the sd Myner answered no not any thing except one hat with a hole in it this ye Deponent saith and further saith not Only the sd Myner sd he believed some of his Country folkes might give - him the sd hatt. J Bishop. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - The deposition of mr Robert Johnson be aged fifty years or there abouts saith that meeting with ffrancis Joyce and James: Minor att snow hill Towne the sd Joyce having formerly acquainted me the deponent that some Cloathing and other things of his was stolen by the sd Myners Nigro was found and discovered to be with the sd Nigro in Accamack, the sd ffrancis being at snow hill as aforesd did desire me the deponent to goe to the sd Miner to know if he were minded to agree with the sd ffrancis and give him satisfaction for the sd stolen goods, or to that effect the sd request I the deponent did answer, and made application to the sd James Minor as aforesd who to my apprehentions made sleight of what I proposed in behalfe of the sd ffrancis as one not takeing any notice thereof but in ye conclusion he wisht me to call the sd ffrancis which I did, and when the sd parties came togeather, fell into words which have slipt |
