R    E    S    O    L    U    T    I    O    N    S.

    WHEREAS by a resolution passed at the last session of the general assembly of Maryland,
William Pinkney, William Cooke and Philip Barton Key, Esquires, were appointed commissioners
on the part of this state, to meet such commissioners as may be appointed for the same purpose by
the commonwealth of Virginia, to settle and adjust, by mutual compact between the two governments,
the western and southern limits of this state, and the dividing lines and boundaries between
this state and the said commonwealth; and also to settle and adjust as aforesaid any claim of this
state, or the said commonwealth, to territory within the limits of the other:  And whereas the said
William Pinkney is now absent from this state, and the said William Cooke hath notified to this
general assembly that he cannot attend to the execution of the above powers, RESOLVED, That
Charles Carroll, of Carrollton, and Jeremiah Townley Chase, Esquires, be and they are hereby
appointed commissioners on the part of this state, in conjunction with the said Philip Barton Key,
for the purposes aforesaid; and the said commissioners are required to report their proceedings, in virtue
of their appointment and authority, to the general assembly of this state, at the next session after the
same shall have been concluded, for confirmation or rejection.
    RESOLVED, The the governor of this state be requested to communicate without delay to the

executive of Virginia this change in appointment of commissioners on the part of the state.

    RESOLVED, That the governor be authorised to draw on the treasurer of the western shore of
this state for a sum not exceeding one hundred dollars, to defray the expences of the Catawba  Indians
in and through this state, on their way to Philadelphia, and for the reimbursement thereof to apply to
the executive of the United States.

    RESOLVED, That this state will loan, for the use of the city of Washington, the sum of one
hundred thousand dollars, agreeably to the request made by the commissioners of the said city under the
authority given by the president of the United States to them, conformably to the act of the congress of
the United States.
    RESOLVED, The the said loan be paid in six per cent. stock of the United States bearing an immediate
interest of six per cent. at par, which the sum trustee of this state is authorised to transfer to the said
commissioners; provided, to secure the repayment of the same, with interest, at the times and in the manner
prescribed by the act of congress, entitled, An act authorising a loan for the use of the city of Washington,
in the district of Columbia, and for other purposes therein mentioned, Gustavus Scott, William
Thornton, Alexander White, or a majority of them, give bond to the state of Maryland, conditioned
for the payment of one hundred thousand dollars, quarterly, and on the several days on which interest on the
said stock is now receivable from the United States; and provided also, that before the transfer
of said stock, Gustavus Scott, William Thornton and Alexander White, in their individual
capacities, give bond to the state of Maryland, in the penalty of two hundred thousand dollars,
conditioned for the repayment of the said sum of one hundred thousand dollars, with interest, at the
times and in the mode prescribed by the act of congress aforesaid, as additional and collateral security
for the same.

    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay unto
Vachel Stevens, of the city of Annapolis, or his order, out of any unappropriated money in the treasury,
the sum of sixty pounds ten shillings, being the amount of money erroneously paid to the state by
a certain William Hanson, deceased, and to which money the said Vachel Stevens is entitled by virtue
of a contract made by him with the trustee of said Hanson.

    RESOLVED, That Gassaway Watkins, of Anne-Arundel county, be and he is hereby allowed to
make payment to the state in the following manner, to wit:  One third of the principal sum now due
shall be paid on the first day of January, seventeen hundred and ninety-eight, with all the interest then
due on the said principal sum; one other third on the first day of January, seventeen hundred and ninety-nine,
with interest on the principal then due; and the remaining third on the first day of January following,
with interest as aforesaid; but if the said Gassaway Watkins shall neglect to pay any one 
instalment as aforesaid, then he shall be liable to be executed for said instalment, with all interest due
on the same.

    WHEREAS Gabriel Peterson Van-Horn did, on the twenty-second day of August, seventeen hundred
and ninety-three, pay to the state of Maryland the sum of ninety pounds nineteen shillings and
nine-pence, in specie, state certificates and deferred stock, on his bond to the said state given for lands
purchased of the late intendant, lying in the reserves of Baltimore county, to which the state can give
no title; therefore, RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore refund to the said Van-Horn
the sum of eighty-five pounds eight shillings and six-pence current money, with interest due thereon
from the said twenty-second day of August, seventeen hundred and ninety-three, till this time.

    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and directed
to advance on loan to Jesse Hollingsworth, Philip Rogers and Emanuel Kent, the sum of eight thousand
dollars, to be applied to rebuilding and completing the academy in Baltimore-town, lately consumed by
fire, to be repaid at the expiration of five years, to commence from the receipt of the money, on the
trustees of the said academy producing to the governor and council a good and complete title to, and
executing a mortgage of, the said property to the state, for securing the repayment of the said advance
at the time aforesaid, and giving security, to be approved by the treasurer, for the application of said
money to the improvement and rebuilding of said academy.

    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby directed to pay unto
Philip Casson, of Caroline county, his executors or administrators, the sum of four hundred and eighty-six
pounds, for half pay due to him as a disabled officer in the service of this state, from the twenty-second

day of December, seventeen hundred and eighty-eight, to the twenty-second day of December,
seventeen hundred and ninety-six; and that the treasurer of the western shore for the time being is hereby
