several persons, their executors, administrators, assigns or orders, or to such of
them as shall offer to receive the same, the several sums of current money allowed
to them respectively, as they appear to be settled and ascertained by the said
journal of accounts, out of any money now in the treasury, or that shall come
into the treasury subject to the appropriation of the general assembly.
RESOLUTIONS assented to November Session, 1796.

    RESOLVED, That the auditor be and he is hereby authorised and directed to settle with Edward
Dennis, late a soldier in the third Maryland regiment, and grant a certificate, bearing
interest from the time of issuing the same, for the depreciation of pay which may appear to
the auditor to be due to said Dennis; and that the governor and council be and they are
hereby authorised to draw on the treasurer of the western shore, in favour of said Dennis, for the amount
of the pay due to him from the first day of August, seventeen hundred and eighty, to the first of
January, seventeen hundred and eighty-one.

    RESOLVED, That the 21st day of November instant be appointed to choose one senator to
represent this state in the senate of the United States, to be a resident of the western shore, and the
person on the said shore having a majority of votes of all the attending members of both houses be
declared duly elected to represent this state in the senate of the United States; and that a commission
issue to the said senator, appointed as aforesaid, signed by the governor for the time being, or in his
absence by the presiding member of the council, the following words, to wit:  The legislature of
Maryland reposing especial confidence in your integrity and abilities, hath appointed you senator to
represent this state in the senate of the United States, for the remainder of the term for which
Richard Potts was elected, agreeably to the constitution of the United States.  Given under my

hand, and seal of this state, anno domini ------------.

    RESOLVED, That George Richardson, late collector of the fund tax for Worcester county, be
and he is hereby released from the payment of the fifteen per cent. on paying the interest of six per
cent. on the principal sum due from the said George, as collector aforesaid.

    WHEREAS a resolution passed the general assembly of Maryland, at their session 1794, requesting
the honourable the chancellor of Maryland, and four other gentlemen, to frame and prepare, for the
consideration of the legislature, a code of testamentary laws:  And whereas the object of the said resolution
has not been obtained:  And whereas the evils resulting from the want of such a code are
every day increasing, and this general assembly being desirous to carry into effect some general system
upon this subject during their present session; wherefore, RESOLVED, That Alexander Contee Hanson,
chancellor of Maryland, be requested to lay before this general assembly, for their consideration,
such a system of testamentary laws, and plan of administration thereof, as in his judgment shall appear

most just, wise and expedient.
    RESOLVED, That the general assembly will guaranty to the chancellor a liberal and competent
allowance for his time, talents and labour, devoted to carrying into effect the foregoing resolution.

    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Alexander Rigdon, or order, the sum
of twenty-five pounds two shillings and three-pence, with interest thereon from the fourteenth of October,
seventeen hundred and eighty-five, it being the sum appearing due to him upon the treasury books
in consequence of an overpayment made by him upon a purchase of land from the intendant.

    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore refund into Robert Haddaway the sum of
forty-eight pounds eleven shillings and three-pence current money, which sum the said Robert has
through mistake paid into the treasury as the composition money on a survey made by the said Robert,
and which had been proclamated before said payment.

        RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay to Valentine Lynn the sum of sixty-eight
pounds, thirteen shillings and one penny current money, it being the amount of depreciation due him
as a soldier in the first Maryland regiment, as ascertained by the auditor-general.

    RESOLVED, That John Leatherberry having paid the whole balance of principal and interest of
six per cent. on the sums due from him as sheriff for fines and forfeitures, and collector of the fund tax

for Somerset county, be and he is hereby released from the payment of the nine per cent. incurred in
consequence of his non-payment of the principal at the time required by law.

    RESOLVED, That Friday the ninth instant be appointed for the election of one senator to represent
this state in the senate of the United States after the third day of March, seventeen hundred and
ninety-seven, to be a resident of the western shore, and the person on the said shore having a majority
of votes of all the attending members of both houses, be declared to be duly elected to represent this
state in the senate of the United States, for the term of six years; and that a commission issue to the 
said senator, appointed as aforesaid, signed by the governor for the time being, or in his absence by the
presiding member of the council, in the following words, to wit:  The legislature of Maryland reposing
especial confidence in your integrity and abilities, hath appointed you senator to represent this
state in the senate of the United States for the term of six years, to commence on the fourth day of
March, seventeen hundred and ninety-seven, given under may hand, and the seal of this state, this
------------ day of ---------------, anno domini ---------.
