of the state.  Your committee further state, that an allowance hath been annually made for
several years past to the said Robert Long for the support of negro Daniel, and are of opinion that
an allowance ought to be made at this time; but inasmuch as the said Robert Long is about to remove
from this state, and cannot keep the said negro after the first day of May next, your committee
submit the following resolution:
    RESOLVED, That the agent of the state be and he is hereby authorised and directed to enter into
an agreement, in writing, with some person in Baltimore-town or county, for the cloathing, support
and maintenance, of negro Daniel, the property of the state, who is now in the family of Robert
Long, and that his general assembly will annually allow to the person with whom the agent shall
agree as aforesaid, a sum of money, not exceeding fifty dollars, for the cloathing, support and maintenance
of the said negro Daniel.
    All which is submitted to the house.

    Which was read the first and second time, the resolution therein contained assented to, and sent to
the senate by the clerk.
    The report on the petition of Charlotte Hall school, and sundry citizens of Saint-Mary's,
Charles and Prince-George's counties, was read the second time, and the question put,
That the said report be referred to the next session of assembly?  The yeas and nays being required,
appeared as follow:

So it was resolved in the affirmative.
    Mr. Reintzel, from the committee, brings in and delivers to the speaker the following report:
    THE committee to whom was referred the petition of Thomas Beall, of George, and James
Lackland, of Montgomery county, and the counter petition thereto, report, that from the peculiar
circumstances of the case, and a desire of doing justice to the parties, they are induced to suggest to
the levy court of Montgomery county the propriety of appointing five respectable characters at their
next June term, residents of said county, not interested in the road prayed for by the petitioners,
who are to inform themselves whether said road is necessary, and if they, or a majority of them,
shall be of opinion that such a road is really necessary, to report the same, under their hands and seals,
to the next general assembly, to which time your committee hope the present petition and counter
petition will be referred.  All which is submitted to the house.
                                                            By order,                                        Z.  HUGHES, clk.
Which was read the first and second time and concurred with.
    On motion, the question was put on the following:
    RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore be and he is hereby authorised and required
to pay to the adjutant-general of this state for the time being the sum of five hundred and thirty-three
dollars and one third of a dollar, and no more, in quarterly payments, as his salary for the year
seventeen hundred and ninety-seven, provided the said adjutant-general reside at, or keep an office at,
the seat of government.
    The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:

    The report on the petition of sundry inhabitants of the head of Chester, in Kent and Queen-Anne's
counties, was read the second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant
thereto.  ORDERED, That the committee appointed on the said petition prepare and bring in
the same.
    On the second reading the supplement for establishing permanent salaries for the chancellor and
judges, the question was put, That the chancellor be allowed 2,800 dollars per annum, as chancellor
and judge of the land-office?  The yeas and nays being required, appeared as follow:
