VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1796.            15

A bill, entitled, An act to enable the vestry of Christ church parish, in Calvert county, to sell and 
dispose of certain lands therein mentioned, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates, December
" 2, 1796:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
                                                            " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk.
" By the house of delegates, December 3, 1796:  Read the second time by especial order and will
" pass.
                                                            " By order,                                W.  HARWOOD, clk."
Which said bills were severally read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate the following resolution:

By teh HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 3, 1796.
    RESOLVED, That John Patterson, James Steele, James Nesbett, Daniel Norris, Hugh Lyon
and John Sterett, and each of them, be allowed to pay and discharge each of their respective bonds,
given to the agent of this state for the purchase of a tract of land called the Widow's Lot, lying
and being in Cæcil county, in deferred stock of hte United States, in three payments, as follows:
One third of the principal and the whole of interest of each of their respective bonds to be paid
on or before the first day of December, seventeen hundred and ninety-seven, one third of the
principal and the whole of interest of the remaining two thirds of each of their respective bonds
to be paid on or before the first day of December, seventeen hundred and ninety-eight, and the remaining
one third, with the interest thereon, to be paid on or before the first day of December, seventeen
hundred and ninety-nine, and upon such payments being made and completed, the treasurer
of the western shore is required to deliver up to the party or parties so making and completing hte
same his or their respective bond or bonds.
                                                            By order,                                  W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
    The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Anne Dent and Theodore Dent, administrators of
Peter Dent, late of Charles county, deceased, was read the second time and will pass with the proposed
amendments.
    Amendments proposed.  In the 6th line of the first page, after the word "warehouse" insert
" for the purpose of defence."  In the 7th line of the same page strike out the words " there for the
purpose of defence."  In the 13th line of the same page, after the word " thus" strike out to the
end of the preamble, and insert the word "incurred."
The senate adjourns until Monday morning 10 o'clock.

M    O    N    D    A    Y,    December 5, 1796.

    THE senate met.  Present the same members as on Saturday.  The honourable John Campbell
and Uriah Forrest, Esquires, appeared in the senate, and qualified before Allen Quynn,
Esquire, one of the justices of the peace of Anne-Arundel county, agreeably to the constitution
and form of government, and laws of this state.  The proceedings of Saturday were read.
    The resolution in favour of Alexander Rigdon, the bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled, 
An act relative to teh proceedings in the court of chancery and in the land-office, with the amendments
thereto, the bill, entitled, An act making valid the title of Matthew Ryan to several lots or
parcels of land therein mentioned, and the resolution in favour of Robert Haddaway, were sent to
the house of delegates by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of hte senate the following message:

By the HOUSE of DELEGATES, December 5, 1796.
        GENTLEMEN OF THE SENATE,
    WE return you the resolution in favour of Valentine Lynn, and hope that upon reconsideration
it will meet with your concurrence.  The ground of your dissent, we presume, was the want of
indifferent testimony to establish the fact of the petitioner's absence from the state of Maryland.  As
this testimony is now procured, we flatter ourselves all objections to the relief prayed for will be effectually
removed.
                                                            By order,                                  W.  HARWOOD, clk.
Which was read.
    The bill, entitled, An act for erecting a new bridge over Dividing Creek, between the counties
of Somerset and Worcester, was read the second time and will pass with the proposed amendments.
    Amendments proposed.  In the 1st line of the preamble strike out the words " and causeways
leading."  In the 2d line of the preamble strike out the word "are" and insert "is."  In the 8th
line of the 1st page strike out from the word "chapel" to the second "and" in the 10th line of the
same page.  In the 16th line of the second page, after the word "his" insert "heirs."  Same line,
after the word "executors" strike out "heirs."  In the 18th line of the 2d page, after the word
"commissioner" insert " or commissioners."  At the beginning of the last line of the second page
insert the words " his or."  In the 3d line of the 3d page strike out the letter "s" at the end 
of the word "purposes."  In the 4th line of the same page strike out the words " and causeways."
In the 8th line of the same page, after the word "uses" insert "and."  In the 9th line of
the same page strike out the words " entitled to demand the same, or either of them," and insert
"respectively."  In the 3d line of the 4th page, after the word "person" insert "persons."  In
the 4th line of the same page strike out the word "lived" and insert " resided, from time to time."
