And a letter from the governor, suggesting that Thomas Walley, the adopted
child of this state,

to the valuation of a lot of
ground in Baltimore, formerly the property of the said Walley, endorsed;

Which were read, and referred to Mr. Key, Mr. Quynn
and Mr. Digges, to consider and report

A petition from John King, of Dorchester county, praying
the register of the land-office may be
authorised to record a patent obtained by James Button for a tract of land
called Button's Intent,
was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Pattison, Mr. Whittington and
Mr. Goldsborough, to
consider and report thereon.
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay
to Alexander Rigdon, or order, the sum
of twenty-five pounds two shillings and three-pence, with interest thereon
from the fourteenth of October,
seventeen hundred and eighty-five, it being the sum appearing to him upon
the treasury
books in consequence of an overpayment made by him upon a purchase of land
from the intendant.
Sent to the senate by the clerk.
The house adjourns till to-morrow morning 9 o'clock.

December 3, 1796.
THE house met. Present the same members as
on yesterday, except Mr. Worthington. The
proceedings of yesterday were read.
Mr. Barroll, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An act to
authorise and empower the justices of the levy court of Kent county to
assess and levy a sum of
money on the inhabitants of said county for the purpose therein mentioned;
which was read the first
time and ordered to lie on the table.
The bill to extend the public road leading from Easton,
in Talbot county, to Aker's ferry, was
read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to confirm
the title of Levin Irving and Samuel Smylie
to the lands therein mentioned. ORDERED, That Mr. Jones, Mr. Robins
and Mr. Wilson, be
a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
Mr. J. C. Thomas, from the committee, brings in and
delivers to the speaker a report on the
petition of sundry inhabitants of Anne-Arundel and Baltimore counties;
which was read the first
and second time, concurred with, and leave given to bring in a bill pursuant
thereto. ORDERED,
That Mr. J. C. Thomas, Mr. Ridgely, Mr. Calvert, Mr. Digges and Mr. Ridout,
be a committee
to prepare and bring in the same.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill, entitled,
An act to repeal the forty-fifth section of the
constitution and form of government. ORDERED, That Mr. Duckett, Mr.
Chapman, Mr.
Whittington, Mr. Key and Mr. Barroll, be a committee to prepare and bring
in the same.
A memorial from the adjutant-general of the state, stating,
that a part of the governor's address
insinuates that the salary of the adjutant-general has been received without
the duties of his office
having been performed, and praying the same may be inquired into, was preferred,
read, and referred
to Mr. Brother, Mr. Key, Mr. Merryman, Mr. Montgomery and Mr. Robins, to
consider
and report thereon.
Mr. McMechen, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a bill, entitled, An
act to erect Baltimore-town, in Baltimore county, into a city, and to incorporate
the inhabitants
thereof; which was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
A petition from Thomas Bond and Henry Richardson, securities
of Thomas Gibson, late sheriff
of Harford county, deceased, praying a further time to collect the balances
due to the said deceased,
was preferred, read, and referred to Mr. Jarrett, Mr. Prall and Mr. Montgomery,
to consider and
report thereon.
The bill to enable the vestry of Christ church parish,
in Calvert county, to sell and dispose of
certain lands therein mentioned, was read the second time by especial order,
passed, and sent to the
senate by the clerk.
The further supplement to an act, entitled, An act for
the establishment of select vestries, was
read the second time by especial order, passed, and sent to the senate
by the clerk.
Mr. Whittington, from the committee, brings in and delivers
to the speaker a report on the petition
of John King; which was read.
The report on the petition of John Patterson, and others,
was read the second time, and the
resolution therein contained assented to, and sent to the senate by the
clerk.
