[Nov. 14] DEBATES 733
to announce he is happy that President
Eney is returning tomorrow.
(Laughter,)
Does anyone wish to record his presence?
This will only require recordation of your
presence not previously recorded.
(Presence recorded on the board,)
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
Does anyone else wish to record his pres-
ence? The Clerk will take the roll.
(Whereupon a roll call was taken.)
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
Finally, the Chair would like to recognize
presence in the gallery of the Glen Burnie
Jaycees. We are happy to have this group
of energetic citizens with us.
(Applause.)
The Chair recognizes Delegate Storm.
DELEGATE STORM: Mr. Chairman,
although I am sure all of us join in your
gladness with Mr. Eney coming back to-
morrow, I think we should also express a
satisfaction with, though we hope nothing
should happen to our President, we would
still be in good hands with you, sir. You
have done a nice job today. (Applause.)
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
Thank you. The Chair recognizes Delegate
Penniman.
DELEGATE PENNIMAN: Mr. Presi-
dent, I think we might also note thanks to
the Committee on Suffrage and Elections
for an excellent presentation today and for
the excellent work of the Chairman of that
Committee. (Applause.)
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
I have noticed that two chairmen who have
had the burden of carrying the discussion
thus far have been frayed at the end. It is
a very nerve racking thing, I know. The
Chair recognizes Delegate Powers.
DELEGATE POWERS: Mr. President,
before I move to adjourn, I would like to
repeat an earlier announcement because
there have been a number of inquiries. Our
schdule from this time forward until fur-
ther notice will be that we will convene in
the mornings at 10:00 A.M. and recess for
an hour and a half in the middle of the day
at approximately 12:30, and adjourn at
about 6:00 P.M. in the evening except for
Mondays. On Mondays we start at 2:00
P.M., recess for an hour and a half at 6:00
P.M, until 7:30 P.M. and then adjourn at
about 10:00 P.M. As to Thanksgiving, our
plan still is that we will adjourn some time
on Wednesday afternoon before Thanks-
giving and not be in session either Thurs-
day, Friday, or Saturday. The following
Saturday, which is December 2, we plan to
be in session and observe the same hours
which we do the week days as well as the
following Saturday, the 9th, unless by
chance we have adjourned by that time.
(Laughter.)
Mr. President, I move we adjourn until
10:00 A.M.
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
Is there a second?
(The motion was duly seconded,)
THE SECOND VICE-PRESIDENT:
All in favor, signify by saying Aye; con-
trary, No. The Ayes have it. It is so or-
dered.
(Whereupon, at 10:00 P.M., the Conven-
tion was adjourned to reconvene at 10:00
A.M. on Tuesday, November 14, 1967.)
PLENARY SESSION
NOVEMBER 14, 1967—10:00 A.M.
PRESIDENT H. VERNON ENEY,
PRESIDING
THE PRESIDENT: The Sergeant-at-
Arms will clear the aisles and close the
doors.
The Convention will please come to order
The invocation today will be offered by
the Reverend Robert L. Kessler, of St.
Mary's Catholic Church, Laurel, Maryland.
Father Kessler.
REVEREND KESSLER: Let us pray:
Our gracious Father in heaven, we pray
for skill in the art of statesmanship that
we may rise to our full stature as faith-
ful sons and daughters of Maryland. Give
us courage—courage to think clearly about
the meaning of life, even though that un-
derstanding means bidding farewell to
cherished illusions; courage to blaze new
ideas, even though their acceptance shat-
ters the pleasant little world of make-
believe; courage to love what is right
rather than what is expedient, even though
that love means sacrifice and service and
ceaseless longing; courage to fight evil,
even though battle means wounds and
weariness and heartache.
