THE PRESIDENT: All those in favor,
signify by saying Aye; contrary, No. The

was adjourned to reconvene at 2:00 P.M. on

PLENARY SESSION
NOVEMBER 1, 1967—-2:00 P.M.
PRESIDENT H. VERNON ENEY,
PRESIDING
THE PRESIDENT: The Convention will
come to order.
The invocation today will be offered by
the Reverend Paul Edwin Bohi, Magothy
Methodist Church, Pasadena, Anne Arun-
del County.
Reverend Bohi.
REVEREND BOHI: Let Us Pray:
Oh, God, to Whom everything is known
and from Whom no secrets are hidden,
cleanse our hearts by the inspiration of
Thy Holy Spirit that we may perfectly
love Thee and worthily magnify Thy Holy
Name through Jesus Christ, Our Lord.
We remind ourselves of Thy purpose in
the creation of man. Thou hast endowed
human beings with intelligence and free
will comparable to Thine Own. We there-
fore judge and acknowledge that our high-
est achievement will be self-control and
self-direction to match these precious en-
dowments. Grant that we may not be con-
formed to this world but transformed this
day by the renewal of our minds so that
we may clearly demonstrate to others what
Thy purpose was in creating a humanity
which would, to a high degree, reflect the
light of a heavenly perfection. Help us, oh,
Lord, to measure up to this high standard
of individual achievement. As a human so-
ciety, it appears that our highest achieve-
ment will be our self-government.
We are glad to be in a land where gov-
ernment is of the people, by the people,
and for the people. It is our responsibility
to interpret Thy law for our day and time.
These persons here assembled have been
carefully chosen to put into our language
a basic structure of government so that
millions may live together within the
BORDER=0s of Maryland in harmony, produc-
tivity, and usefulness. Guide them, we pray,
that their individual contributions might |
be fittingly framed together. That the re-
sulting document may clearly represent the
purposes of our citizenry and may promote
the resemblance of our society to Thy
Heavenly Kingdom. Help us, oh, Lord, to
measure up to this high standard of joint
achievement.
Now we put ourselves into Thy hands to
be used by Thee. We commit also to Thee,
all those for whom we ought to pray. As
Thy sun shines on the evil and good; as
Thy rain falls on the just and the unjust;
we ask Thy blessing on all men. May the
words of our mouths and the meditations
of our hearts be acceptable in Thy sight,
oh, Lord our strength and our redeemer.
Amen.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you.
Roll call.
(Whereupon the roll call was taken.)
THE PRESIDENT: Have all the dele-
gates answered the roll call?
The Clerk will record the roll call.
There being a quorum present, the Con-
vention is in session.
The Chair recognizes Delegate Powers,
Chairman of the Committee on Calendar
and Agenda.
DELEGATE POWERS: Mr. President,
with respect to Item No. 8 on today's
calendar, the Chairman of the Committee
on State Finance and Taxation has re-
quested time be given for further con-
sideration of this matter.
1, therefore, move that the calendar be
amended by deleting Item No. 8 and be
approved as amended.
THE PRESIDENT: Is there a second?
(The motion was duly seconded.)
THE PRESIDENT: Any discussion?
The question arises on the approval of
the calendar as amended by elimination of
Item No. 8. All in favor, signify by saying
Aye; contrary, No.
The Ayes have it. The calendar is
adopted as amended.
Before proceeding to the next item of
business I would like to announce that the
crowded condition of the gallery today is
due to the fact there are about 112 stu-
dents of the Hampton Elementary School
of the Third District of Baltimore County
here today, and they are in the gallery. |
