308 CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF MARYLAND [Oct. 26]
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Fox, in
view of the statement by Delegate Miller,
would you care to—
DELEGATE FOX. I would be glad to
withdraw my motion.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you and
thank you, Delegate Miller.
Are there any other motions or resolu-
tions?
(There was no response.)
If not, I have a few announcements to
make. I had intended to announce the
designation of voting memberships to the
two Vice-Presidents on the three commit-
tees to which each is respectively assigned.
But in view of the action on Resolution
No. 18, I will not do so.
The attendance of delegates at yester-
day's showing of the film, "The Mighty
Oak," was zero. The film will be shown in
this chamber immediately after the conclu-
sion or say ten minutes after the conclu-
sion of the session Monday afternoon.
Thereafter, it will not be shown except by
request; it will be shown at any time upon
request of delegates.
The script of the film, "The Mighty
Oak," has, I believe, been circulated and is
on your desks. Are there any announce-
ments by committee chairmen? Delegate
Kiefer.
DELEGATE KIEFER: Mr. President,
the Committee on Personal Rights and the
Preamble has been conducting hearings on
eminent domain, will continue to do so
after this session. On Monday afternoon at
1:00 P.M. the committee will reassemble, at
2:00 P.M. it will hear from Judge Wilson
Barnes, who will speak on several specific
matters.
This will conclude the hearings of this
committee except for those delegates who
may not have had a chance to speak on
the proposals that have been referred to
the committee. Also it does not include the
preamble which had been scheduled for
hearing for tomorrow, but will be set up
for one day next week.
Tomorrow afternoon after the Conven-
tion, and after "The Mighty Oak," the
committee will reassemble to consider
further, by debate and decision, some of
the problems before it.
THE PRESIDENT: You mean Monday
afternoon?
DELEGATE KIEFER: Yes, I am sorry.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Mudd.
DELEGATE MUDD: Mr. President, the
Committee on the Judicial Branch will
meet immediately following this plenary
session to receive the report of the sub-
committee dealing with the office of sheriff.
The deliberations of this committee this
afternoon will be with respect to the office
of sheriff and clerk of the court, under the
guidance of Delegate Henderson in my ab-
sence.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Sherbow.
DELEGATE SHERBOW: Mr. Presi-
dent, our Committee has possibly concluded
hearings from witnesses, but we have re-
quested some of the legislative leaders to
be present at a meeting. They have agreed
to come Monday at 5:00 P.M. and I would
like to ask all the members of the Commit-
tee on Finance and Taxation to please be
ready at our hearing room Monday after-
noon at 5:00 P.M.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Moser.
DELEGATE MOSER: Mr. President,
the Committee on Local Government will
reconvene immediately after this session.
Delegates have been afforded an oppor-
tunity to be heard on all proposals re-
ferred to the Local Government Committee
through yesterday. We will schedule a
hearing on Proposal No. 418 referred today
to Local Government Committee at 9:00
A.M. on Tuesday morning. And any other
proposals that are introduced through
Monday will be heard at that time.
The committee will meet at 2:00 P.M. on
Monday, and after the session on Monday
afternoon the committee will commence
final action, or votes leading to final action,
on all sections of the Local Government
Article.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Morgan.
DELEGATE MORGAN: Mr. President,
the Committee on the Executive Branch
will meet immediately following this ple-
nary session, hopefully to conclude our
decision-making process.
THE PRESIDENT: Are there any other
announcements by committee chairmen?
Delegate Koss.
DELEGATE KOSS: Mr. President, the
Committee on Suffrage and Elections will
meet at 1:00 P.M. on Monday to consider
the report of the subcommittee on fre-
quency of election, and proceed from then
on, when necessary, to take votes on sub-
stantive issues. Thank you.
