handed additional amendments. There are
now seven more. I think it is unreasonable
to go further.
The Chair recognizes Delegate Powers.
Before I recognize Delegate Powers, let
me say that I would like very much to con-
clude tomorrow afternoon at as early an
hour as possible, but obviously from the
progress that we have made or not made
this evening, it is going to be very difficult.
We will have to resume the session at noon
tomorrow. I will ask you to be prompt. We
will not take a recess for lunch. We will do
our very best to recess before 5:00 P.M.
Are there any announcements that have
to be made by committee chairmen? Are
there any announcements by the delegates?
Apparently not.
Delegate Barrick.
DELEGATE BARRICK: Mr. President, I
was just wondering if we could not meet
earlier and maybe get off earlier in the af-
ternoon.
THE PRESIDENT: The difficulty is that
we have scheduled for some days a special
meeting on transitional provisions which
cannot be postponed. Too many people
would be tied up in the other meeting.
I think if you will have your lunch before
coming and get what rest you can before
then so that we can move briskly tomor-
row, we can get out.
Delegate Weidemeyer.
DELEGATE WEIDEMEYER: I have
one inquiry as to whether we would meet
tomorrow night.
THE PRESIDENT: I would hope that we
would not. Many of you have engagements
I know.
Delegate Storm.
DELEGATE STORM: I may not get
here early. Are you talking about today or
tomorrow ?
THE PRESIDENT: I am talking about
today. I thank you, sir. My watch seems al-
ways to be running slow.
Delegate Powers.
Delegate Grumbachcr.
DELEGATE CRUM BACKER: Will
Delegate Powers yield to a question ?
DELEGATE POWERS: Yes.
DELEGATE GRUMBACHER: May we
have the same bet tomorrow night?
|
DELEGATE POWERS: Yes, gladly.
THE PRESIDENT: Any delegate not
present earlier who desires to answer the
supplementary roll call may do so now.
Delegate Powers.
DELEGATE POWERS: Mr. President, I
move we adjourn until 12:00 noon today.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Hardwicke.
DELEGATE HARDWICKE: I hope that
the record will show that the President
said any delegates not present now will in-
dicate their presence on supplementary roll
call.
T,HE PRESIDENT: All we have done is
confirm the fact that it has been a long,
long day.
All in favor of adjourning until today at
noon will please indicate by saying Aye;
contrary, No. The Ayes have it. It is so
ordered.
(Whereupon, at 12:15 A.M., Saturday,
December 30, 1967, the Convention was re-
cessed to reconvene at 12:00 Noon on the
same day.)
PLENARY SESSION

PRESIDENT H. VERNON ENEY,
PRESIDING
THE PRESIDENT: The Sergeant-at-
Arms will clear the aisles and close the
doors.

Delegate Bruce Price.
The invocation today will be offered by
Delegate Price.
DELEGATE PRICE: Let us pray:
O God, our Father, Ruler of all the uni-
verse, humble us that we may sense our
need of Thy direction. Humble us that we
may put aside the false pride and preoccu-
pation with self that mark our lives. Hum-
ble us that we may see clearly that our
best fulfillment comes in relationships and
responsibilities, not in self-expression or
self-indulgence. Humble us that we may
know our need for forgiveness.
Then, O Lord, strengthen us to bear the
burdens and pains of the day, to do the
hard tasks that must be done, to care for
