PLENARY SESSION
OCTOBER 25, 1967—2:00 P.M.
PRESIDENT H. VERNON ENEY,
PRESIDING
THE PRESIDENT: The Convention will
please come to order.
The invocation today will be offered by
the Reverend Herbert S. Costain of St.
James Episcopal Church, Indian Head,
Maryland, Charles County. Reverend Cos-
tain.
.REVEREND COSTAIN: May We Bow
Our Heads As We Seek Guidance:
Almighty Father, by Whose Heavenly
Guidance our fathers won the liberties of
old, we thank Thee for the great country
in which we are privileged to work and
live. We hold before Thee our constant
prayer for all the brave men who carry
the standard for us in distant places across
the sea. We pray that Thou will be a close
comfort for those who are wounded and
are called upon to die. We ask that Thou
wilt dwell in their hearts. We ask Thy
, blessing upon the delegates to the Consti-
tutional Convention that they maybe given
wisdom and understanding far above merely
human ability. We pray that, thus guided,
they can together build a structure for the
equitable governing of this state. We pray
that it will be a structure worthy of the
men who are fighting and dying to pre-
serve our democratic form of government.
Give these delegates the courage and pa-
tience and high resolve to do a job worthy
of Thy blessing. Help them, Dear Lord, to
formulate a framework of government
which will give due representation to every
legitimate interest while at the same time,
standing firm against all undue pressure
from groups seeking only their own selfish
interest. |
