276 CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF MARYLAND [Oct. 23]
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Boyer.
DELEGATE BOYER: Mr. President,
before I make announcements, I wonder if
I could address a question to Judge Powers,
Chairman of the Calendar.
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead.
DELEGATE BOYER: Judge, is there
any thought perhaps to showing "The
Mighty Oak" to the entire convention after
the session one particular day.
DELEGATE POWERS: In answer to
that question, a member of the Committee
on Calendar and Agenda, Delegate Clark,
made that suggestion. I proposed to take
it up so we can have the question answered.
THE PRESIDENT: The difficulty about
it is the only two places that we now know
of where the projector and screen are
available are in rooms that are not large
enough for the entire Convention. If we
could get a large enough room, it would be
much easier.
DELEGATE BOYER: The reason I
asked is I was taken by surprise by your
announcement, and I just wanted to clarify
if there is some thought that perhaps if
this might be shown to the entire Conven-
tion, we would save duplication by show-
ing it to the General Provisions Committee
this afternoon. It has been the thought of
the committee that a lot of our constitu-
ents have been inquiring about it and what
the theme is and format. We thought we
could best answer it by viewing it our-
selves so we could intelligently answer
their questions.
1 hate to scrub out your announcement,
but I would prefer at this stage of the
game to return to our committee room im-
mediately after the session and take up
discussion of some matters before us, and
we will try to fill in the showing to the
General Provisions Committee of "The
Mighty Oak," at a later date.
THE PRESIDENT: That is all right.
The memorandum sent to my office today
was that your committee would still be
there. The film will still be shown 15 min-
utes after this session for whatever dele-
gates have the time and inclination to see
it.
DELEGATE BOYER: Thank you. The
General Provisions Committee will meet
immediately after the session in the Jeffrey
Building for discussion purposes.
THE PRESIDENT: Are there any other
announcements by committee chairmen?
Delegate Vecera.
DELEGATE VECERA: Mr. President
and ladies and gentlemen of the Conven-
tion, several delegates requested some in-
formation regarding facilities at the Naval
Academy. I therefore wrote to Admiral
Kauffman and received a reply. May I read
in part, Mr. President.
THE PRESIDENT: I did not catch the
last part.
DELEGATE VECERA: May I read in
part the letter that concerns the delegates'
request? May I read it, Mr. President?
THE PRESIDENT: Go ahead.
DELEGATE VECERA: Admiral Kauff-
man states: We are unable to make gym
facilities available for ladies. Arrange-
ments can be made on an informal basis
by gentlemen delegates to work out at
times which will not interfere with the
midshipmen's education and training. Dele-
gates desiring to make such arrange-
ments may call Commander J. S. Donald-
son, or Professor A. J. Rubino on Exten-
sion 430 at the Naval Academy. Some
delegates wanted to work out. In line with
that if they understand the terminology,
they may see me at any time and I will
give them in writing the extension number,
Extension 430.
May the entertainment committee please
have a brief meeting around my desk im-
mediately after this session.
THE PRESIDENT: Are there any
further announcements bycommittee chair-
men?
DELEGATE MOSNER: I cannot an-
nounce the apprehension of the robbers who
robbed our bank of $114,000 last Friday,
but the F.B.I, is working on it. I would,
however, like to announce I have the rare
privilege of announcing—and I say rare
because this thing will never happen again
to the two principals involved—the an-
nouncement is that the very able Chairman
of our Finance and Taxation Committee,
Honorable Joseph Sherbow and his very
lovely wife gave birth to a lovely, I mean
(laughter) I mean celebrated their forty-
fifth wedding anniversary yesterday. (Ap-
plause.)
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Bradshaw.
DELEGATE BRADSHAW: Mr. Presi-
dent, I wish to announce the presence in
the gallery immediately facing the rostrum
of approximately thirty members of the
Teenage Republican Club of Montgomery
County accompanied by Miss Carol Rogers.
(Applause.)
