214 CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION OF MARYLAND [Oct. 6]
session, that the members of that very fine
Committee do not appear to wear horns
any longer. We had a very fine session,
and I just felt that this should be re-
corded in the light of the statement that
was made by Chairman Kiefer yesterday.
THE PRESIDENT: Thank you. Any
further announcements? Mrs. Mitchell?
DELEGATE MITCHELL: Mr. Chair-
man, on Monday of this week, there came
a letter from an eighth grade pupil to the
Convention. A very gracious letter went
to the writer from the Chief Clerk's of-
fice, as a result of which this eighth
grader was excused from her classes today.
She got another pupil to come with her,
and they are our guests, observing our
Convention activities. I have explained to
Miss Rochelle Woodland, the writer of the
letter, and to her friend, Miss Denise
Lewis, that much of the constructive work
we shall do here will benefit her and her
generation most; but in addition, I have
assured her that she and her friend are
very important to us because the young
people of this State, while they cannot
vote, they can get their parents and the
adults in their neighborhood to vote for
this document that we shall finally form.
Miss Woodland and Miss Lewis are in
the balcony. I will ask them to stand.
Miss Woodland, Rochelle Woodland, will
you stand, and Miss Lewis?
THE PRESIDENT: We are delighted
to have both of them here. (Applause.)
Are there any further announcements?
(There was no response.)
Are there any delegates present now
who were not present at roll call who de-
sire to record their presence? Delegate
Storm?
DELEGATE STORM: I wish my pres-
ence to be noted.
THE PRESIDENT: Delegate Ritter?
DELEGATE RITTER: I desire to be
recorded as present.
THE PRESIDENT: Are there any other
delegates who desire to indicate their
presence?
(There was no response.)
If not, the Chair recognizes Delegate
Powers.
DELEGATE POWERS: Mr. President,
I am pleased to announce that one of the
members of the research staff of the Con-
vention, Mr. Charles L. Williams, was
married on Saturday, September 30. He
returned to his duties with the Convention
on Monday morning, October 2. I am sure
we all join in extending our hearty con-
gratulations to him, and best wishes to
the bride. We also hope that the inter-
rupted honeymoon may be resumed im-
mediately after this Convention adjourns
sine die.
I move that we adjourn until tomorrow
at 2:00 P.M.
THE PRESIDENT: All those in favor,
signify by saying Aye; contrary, No. The
Ayes have it. It is so ordered.
(Whereupon, at 2:53 P.M., the Conven-
tion was adjourned to reconvene at 2:00.
P.M. on Friday, October 6, 1967.)
PLENARY SESSION
OCTOBER 6, 1967 —2:00 P.M.
FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT
JAMES CLARK, PRESIDING
THE FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT: The
Sergeant-at-Arms will clear the aisles and
close the doors.
The Convention will now come to order.
The invocation today will be given by
Father George B. Moeller, St. Jane Frances
Catholic Church, Riviera Beach, Maryland.
REVEREND MOELLER: Almighty and
Everlasting God, Our Father, as we be-
gin this session of the Constitutional Con-
vention we call upon your name. We thank
you first of all for the great gift you have
bestowed upon us as citizens of the United
States of America and of the State of
Maryland. We ask You to remain with us
always. We implore You to guide and direct
the delegates of this convention as they
work for the betterment of our state and
the welfare of the people. Oh, God, may
our Constitutional Convention be filled
with your wisdom and understanding; may
it truly reflect Your Justice and Charity
toward one and all.
Amen.
THE FIRST VICE-PRESIDENT:
Thank you.
We will now have the roll call.
(Whereupon the roll call was taken.)
