gate from each of the standing committees
to endeavor to answer questions from the
teachers. This is immediately following our
adjournment.
THE PRESIDENT: Are there any fur-
ther announcements?
I have been requested to make one other
announcement. I want to make another one
I overlooked. The delegates from Allegany
County request that if anyone here has a
camera, and is expert at taking good pho-
tographs, they would like very much to
have a photograph taken immediately of
the three prior delegates and their new
delegate, Delegate Ritter, so if any of you
have camera handy and will volunteer
your services, they will appreciate it.
Delegate Taylor?
DELEGATE L. TAYLOR: Mr. Presi-
dent, I have a suggestion for the Public
Information Office, in view of the fact it is
so difficult to get information about the ac-
tivities of the various committees. There
are meetings being held each morning and
many of the delegates are interested in the
activities of other committees. We hear
these announcements from the various
chairmen but when we come in in the
morning, it would be nice to have some-
thing in front of us which indicates each
activity to be discussed by each committee.
I wonder if this could be done by the
Public Information Office.
THE PRESIDENT: We will try to do
that, Delegate Taylor. The present schedule
attempts to show the purpose of the hear-
ing, but because of the format, it does not
give too much information. We will try to
elaborate on it.
Are there any further announcements?
I have received from a number of dele-
gates a request that they be considered for
appointment to the Committee on Public
Information. I cannot possibly appoint to
that committee everyone who has requested
it, but if any of you particularly desire
appointment to that committee, I would be
glad to consider your name, if you will
leave a note with one of my secretaries and
a brief statement of the reasons for your
interest.
Are there any further announcements?
Are there any delegates present now who
were not present at roll call who desire to
indicate their presence?
(There was no response.) |
THE PRESIDENT: If not, the Chair
recognizes Delegate Powers.
DELEGATE POWERS: Mr. President,
I am pleased to announce that one of our
efficient young pages, Miss Stephanie Har-
mon, Montgomery Blair High School,
Montgomery County, Maryland, is celebrat-
ing her 17th birthday today. I am sure we
all join in extending our hearty congratula-
tions to the young lady.
(Applause.)
DELEGATE POWERS: I move we ad-
journ until Monday, October 2, at 4:00 P.M.
THE PRESIDENT: All those in favor,
signify by saying Aye. Opposed, No. The
Ayes have it. It is so ordered.
(Whereupon, at 3:45 P.M., the Convention
was adjourned to reconvene at 4:00 P.M. on
Monday, October 2, 1967.)
PLENARY SESSION
OCTOBER 2, 1967—4:00 P.M.
PRESIDENT H. VERNON ENEY,
PRESIDING
THE PRESIDENT: The Sergeant-at-
Arms will clear the aisles and close the
doors.
The invocation today will be offered by
the Reverend John W. Neimiller of the
First Baptist Church of Savage, Howard
County. Reverend Neimiller.
REVEREND NEIMILLER: Our God
and Our Living Heavenly Father, we come
to Thee now to pray for Thy blessing on
this assembly. We pray that Thou will
grant unto these elected representatives of
our State of Maryland a consciousness of
the seriousness of the business at hand,
that Thou will grant unto them a divine
wisdom wherein they will operate as indi-
viduals and yet be able to have agreement
and harmony in recognizing the common
good of the State of Maryland. And so, Our
Father and Our Living God, grant that in
this session there might be wisdom, serious-
ness, cooperation—that out of this Consti-
tutional Convention we might have the
guidelines that will make our state the
greatest state in America. In Jesus Christ,
your Son, our Lord,
Amen.
THE PRESIDENT: Roll call.
(Whereupon a roll call was taken.) |
