order he had notified the absent members that their attendance in
the Convention was required.
The Convention then resumed the consideration of the order of
the day;
The question pending before the Convention being on the
amendment offered by Mr. Dirickson, as a substitute for the 21st
sect ion of pri nted report.
Mr. Phelps moved for a division of the question upon each
branch of said amendment.
Mr. Phelps withdrew the motion.
Mr. Dirickson renewed the motion,
And moved for the yeas and nays, which were ordered.
The question was then put on the 1st branch of said amend
ment being in these words, "the Governor shall be in attendance
at the seat of Government during the sessions of the Legislature
of the State;"
The yeas and nays were then taken and appeared as follows:
A FFIRMATIVE —Messrs. Lee, Dorsey, Dalrymple, Bell, Lloyd,
Dickinson, Sherwood, of Talbot, Crisfield, Dashiell, Eccleston,
Dirickson, McMAster, Fooks, Gaither, Sappington, Nelson, Carter,
H ardcast le, Schley, Fiery, John Newcomer, Harbine, Davis,
Brewer, Slicer, Sm ith, Cockey and Brown—28.
NEGATIVE---Messrs. Blakistone, Pres't, (pro tem.) Dent, Hope-
well, Chambers, of Kent, Mitchell, Donaldson, , Wells, Randall,
Kent, Sell man, Sollers, Brent, of Charles, Buchanan, Welch,
Chandler, Williams, H icks, Hudson, Phelps, Chambers, of Cecil,
Miller, McLane, Bowie, Tuck, Grason, Shr iver, Biser, McHenry,
Magraw Gwinn, Stewart, of Baltimore city, Presstman, Ware,
Kilgour, Waters, Weber, Hollyday and Parke—37.
So the 1st branch of said amendment was rejected.
The question then recurred on the 2nd and last branch of said
amendment, being in these word, ‘and shall receive for his ser
vices an annual salary of two thousand dollars;"
Mr. Dirickson, with the consent of the Convention withdrew
the last branch of his amendment;
And moved to amend the 21st section in printed report, by
striking out in the last line thereof, the words "four thousand,"
and inserting in l ieu thereof, ‘‘two thousand;"
Mr Crisfield, moved for a division of the question upon strik
ing out;
Mr Dorsey, moved to amend said 21st section of printed report,
by insert ing after the word "Government," ," in the 1st line, the
following "during the sessions of the General Assembly, and
in the recess thereof, shall be in the city of Annapolis, during the
first week of every other month of his term;"
Mr. Chambers, of Kent, moved to amend said 21st section of
