20            VOTES and PROCEEDINGS, November, 1799.

    On motion, Mr. Campbell has leave to withdraw the bill, entitled, An act for the better preservation
of last wills and testaments disposing of real estates, which had been introduced at the
last, and referred to the consideration of this session of assembly.
    The bill, entitled, An act to authorise Charles Gassaway, of Montgomery county, to alter
part of a road therein mentioned, was read the second time and will pass with the proposed
amendment.
    Amendment proposed.  Strike out the words " part of said road" in the last line but one of
the bill, and insert the words " a public highway."
    Which bill and amendment, the bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court
of Anne-Arundel county to assess and levy a sum of money for the purpose therein mentioned,
the bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Gilbert Murdock, of the city of Annapolis, and the
amendment thereto, the bill, entitled, An act to authorise and empower the levy court of Montgomery
county to assess and levy annually a sum of money for the purposes therein mentioned,
and the bill, entitled, An act respecting the poor-house of Baltimore county, were sent to the
house of delegates by the clerk.
    Mr. Campbell has leave of absence.
    The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of James Brown and William Thompson, of Charles
county, Frederick Koones, of Prince-George's county, and John Kelly, of Montgomery county,
was read the second time and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of James Roney, of Somerset county, was read the
second time and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, An act to repair the public gaol in Saint-Mary's county, was read the
second time and will pass with the proposed amendments.
    Amendments proposed.  Strike out from the word "dollars" in the ninth line of the first page
to the word "on" in the tenth line.  Strike out the word "public" in the eleventh line of the
same page, and insert the words, " present, or building a new."  At the end of the first section
insert, " provided that not more than the sum of one thousand dollars shall be levied in any one
year."  Strike out the words, " provided nevertheless that" in the sixteenth line of the first page,
and insert the word "or." Strike out from the word "to" in the first line of the second page
to the end of the bill, and insert " contract with any person or persons building a new gaol, 
upon such plan as they may think eligible, and to sell at public sale the materials of the present
gaol, and to apply the money therefrom arising to building a new gaol, or otherwise, in their
discretion, to apply the materials thereof towards the foundation or other parts of the new
building."
    The bill, entitled, An act to incorporate the Roman catholic congregation in Cob Neck, in
Charles county, was read the second time and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, A supplement to an act, entitled, An act authorising the justices of the levy
court of Queen-Anne's county to levy a sum of money for the building of a prison in the said
county, and to regulate the same, was read the second time and will pass.
    The bill, entitled, An act for laying out a road from Isaac Simmons's dwelling plantation, near
Herring creek, to intersect the main road leading to Tracy's landing, in Anne-Arundel county,
was read the second time and will not pass.
    The bill, entitled, An act for the relief of Thomas Hewitt, of Prince-George's county, was
read the second time and will pass.
    The seven bills, and the amendments, next before mentioned, were sent to the house of delegates
by the clerk.
    The clerk of the house of delegates delivers to the clerk of the senate a bill, entitled, An act
for the relief of Robert Gover, of Harford county, thus endorsed; " By the house of delegates,
" November 25, 1799:  Read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
