The bill to authorise the laying out a public road
from Thomas Underhill's mill, to intersect
the road leading from John Neale's to John Coxe's, in Harford county, was
read the second time,
passed, and sent to the senate by the clerk.
Mr. J. Thomas, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act annulling
the marriage of John Crist, of Frederick county, and Susannah, his wife;
which was read the
first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Carroll, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, A supplement to the
act, entitled, An act for the regulation of officers fees; which was read
the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.
On motion, ORDERED, That the bill to regulate the inspection
of tobacco, be referred to the
next session of assembly.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill to fix and
establish warehouse rent, and shipping
charges of tobacco carried to inspection-houses. ORDERED, That Mr.
Key, Mr. Hall and Mr.
McPherson, be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
Mr. Wallace, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to lay out
and open a road in Cæcil county from Archibald Dysart's towards Hugh
Ramsay's tavern; which
was read the first time and ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Addison, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to authorise
and empower the justices of the levy court of Prince-George's county to
pull down the repository
of the records of the register of wills in said county; which was read
the first time and ordered
to lie on the table.
Mr. Carroll, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
a bill, entitled, An act to make permanent
and continue the acts of assembly therein mentioned; which was read
the first time and
ordered to lie on the table.
Mr. Bond, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
the following report:
THE committee to whom was referred the petition of George
Chocke, of Harford county,
report, that they have taken the same into consideration, and are of opinion
the prayer of the
petitioner is reasonable, and ought to be granted; therefore submit the
following resolution:
RESOLVED, That the treasurer of the western shore pay
to George Chocke, of Harford county,
or his order, the sum of two pounds four shillings, and one penny current
money, it being a
balance due the said Chocke on the books of the treasury, with interest
thereon from the twenty-first
day of September, seventeen hundred and eighty-five.

On the second reading of the report on the petition
of the corporation of George-town, the
question was put, That the house concur with the first clause in the said
report? Determined in
the negative.
The report being read throughout, the question was put,
That the house concur therewith?
Determined in the negative.
On motion, Leave given to bring in a bill vesting certain
powers in the the corporation of George-town.
ORDERED, That Mr. Turner, Mr. Riley, Mr. Key, Mr. Warfield and Mr. Swearingen,
be a committee to prepare and bring in the same.
The order of the day respecting the bill for the relief
of sundry insolvent debtors, is postponed
till Saturday next.
The bill to empower the justices of the levy court of
Harford county to assess and levy a sum
of money for the purpose therein mentioned, was read the second time,
passed, and sent to the
senate by the clerk.
The bill to lay out and open a road in Cæcil county
from Archibald Dysart's towards Hugh
Ramsay's tavern, was read the second time by especial order, passed, and
sent to the senate by
the clerk.
The further supplement to the act respecting the settlers
on the reserved lands westward of
Fort Cumberland, was read the second time, passed, and sent to the senate
by the clerk.
The report on the petition of the Hope Interest company
was read the second time, and the
question put, That the house concur therewith? Determined in the
negative.
The report on the memorial of certain subscribers, a
committee of the citizens of Baltimore,
was read the second time and rejected.
On motion, ORDERED, That the bill to establish a bank,
and to incorporate the subscribers
thereto, be referred to the next session of assembly.
The report on the memorial of the trustees of Hillsborough
school, in Caroline county, was
read the second time, and the question put, That the house assent to the
resolution therein contained?
Determined in the negative.
Mr. Taney, from the committee, delivers to the speaker
the following report:
THE committee appointed to inquire whether any and what
alterations are necessary in
superintending the revenue of the state, and whether, in their opinion,
it is necessary to appoint
an agent for the year one thousand eight hundred, beg leave to report the
following as the
result of their inquiries.
It appears, from the best examination the committee
have been able to give the subject consistently
with their other duties, that the installed debt, with principal and interest,
amounts to
the sum of £. 114,558 11 11; no certain calculation can be made on
the receipt of any large
portion of this sum in the course of the ensuing year, except what is due
from the purchasers
of confiscated property. The amount thus due, and the payment thereof
secured by bond is
